Emotional intelligence is the capacity to blend thinking and feeling to make optimal decisions. It’s being smarter with feelings. In the Six Seconds Model of Emotional Intelligence, it is broken down into 3 pursuits:
Self-Awareness: Be more aware, by clearly seeing what you feel and do
Choice: Be more intentional, by doing what you mean to do
Purpose: Be more purposeful, by doing it for a reason
These pursuits are made measurable and actionable by 8 unique emotional intelligence skills, which are explained below:
Emotional Intelligence What is emotional intelligence? Emotional intelligence is about being smarter with feelings. More aware. More intentional. More purposeful.

Lee Guerette's specialty is helping teachers introduce Mindful practices from the book “CognitiveYoga”. She has an MA in Reading and Language, and advanced certification from 6seconds to assess and create curriculum. She is the Director of Cognitive Yoga and author for EQ4Peace Worldwide.
Her presentation at the EQ2A summit is titled “How to Treat Your Neighbor” and focuses on both educators and parents.
We will learn about Negative self-chatter. How common it is, how destructive, and how it begins or goes away.
1. We must understand our psychological makeup to monitor and make life choices that will bring us health and happiness.
2. We need to become lifelong learners, flexible thinkers, and open to new ideas.
3. We need to be culturally sensitive to other races, geographic influence, religions, economic and educational levels.
4. We need to become wise stewards of earth resources.
5. We need a moral compass for just social practices in business, as individuals and communities.
Good teachers always endeavor to bring positive ethics into the classroom, but as an experienced advocate of social-emotional learning, she would suggest that Social Emotional Learning become a co-curricular activity or be woven into all courses as a best practice. Curriculum and training for teachers to understand and use collaborative, thought-provoking, emotionally profound lessons to deeply engage their charges is essential for them to become 21st-century thinkers.
She believes that the main challenge in education (K-8) today is “Self-Regulation - acceptance of Diversity” whilst the biggest opportunities are “Global Community Communication--Emphasis on Well Being.”

Lorena Seidel M.Ed. is a Social-Emotional Learning specialist, a Montessori educator, a Positive Discipline facilitator, a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher, and a mother of three. She helps educational leaders to support the social and emotional well-being of students (and their families!)
Her presentation at the EQ2A summit is titled: "Helping Families Raise Emotionally Intelligent Children" and focuses on educators.
Research shows that 80% of our children's future success depends on their mindset. Let's learn how to best support our children's social and emotional well-being - in and out of the classroom so that they grow with an invincible mindset and an unshakable sense of self which can greatly reduce the risk of many problems faced by youth today.
The biggest challenge in k-8 education is bridging the school/home social and emotional gap. There is a need to offer a well-structured parenting education plan that elevates the parents' emotional intelligence.
Parent ed. is random, disconnected, and shallow -as often schools will bring experts/authors to give their signature talk with no follow-up. Parents create more meaningful change in their family dynamics when they go deeper into strategies, coaching, and implementation.
Lorena believes in a world in which all children experience healthy, peaceful, and positive childhoods. World peace starts with peace in our homes and classrooms. If we get this right, we can raise the next generation of emotionally equipped humans who can heal humanity.

Vera Thomas is a Certified Life Coach, Speaker, Trainer, Mediator, Poet, and 12x Amazon Best Selling Author. She is the founder of “The Vera Thomas Show” a Podcast/Video show, and a Consultant at the Certified Center for Teacher Effectiveness. She has worked with individuals, companies, non-profit organizations, schools, and churches engaging youth and adults.
At the EQ2A summit, her presentation focuses on both parents and educators and is titled: Instilling Greatness In Myself and My Children
This presentation is an examination of parental styles, attitudes, and behaviors that impact children. We will learn the tools for immediate consideration.
According to her, Social-emotional learning (SEL) and EQ, are both lacking in today's society and awareness must begin at the earliest age possible.
From a personal perspective, having grown up bullied and ridiculed, it was absolutely necessary for her to learn how to be in touch with and control her emotions. She could not teach how to do this if she wasn’t able to do it for herself. Using tools she has incorporated into her own life enhances what she does to guide others through the process. It is an ongoing process.
She believes the main challenges in education (K-8) today are:
1. How some teachers relate, respond, and react to students.
2. The teaching of SEL and EQ as well as financial literacy.
Conversely, the biggest opportunities in education today are the opportunity to teach SEL and EQ techniques and apply them daily. This enhances the school experience for both students and teachers and helps teachers and parents recognize their impact on children.
