NEIGHBORHOOD DOCUMENTARY PLANNING - We had our 1st Meeting last Sunday. The turnout was small but I hope people are still interested. To that end I've created this collaborative page to get the ball rolling. I will send out invites to all and please find attached a list of what we talked about at the meeting and to see who wants to volunteer for any duties. There is no pressure here as I realize everyone works or don't have much time to offer. We are just trying to collect info and get enough materials to start. Please pass this on to anyone who wants to assist that I may have forgotten about. Also a very special Thank you to Sandra Cusack for putting all of this together! God Bless!

NEIGHBORHOOD DOCUMENTARY PLANNING

Peter Venturelli wrote a book in the 1988 about the
Neighborhood, and I reached out to him to see if he’d be
interested in helping us with reference sources. So now,
in addition, we need Documentary Committee Members
to volunteer for these specific areas of interest:

I. Old Family movies (which team member(s) will collect either posted to the page or picked up. They will be converted, scanned and returned. This way the material can be preserved and uploaded to the Family Sites part of the Face Book page to share with grandkids and other family members, links can be sent only in private to family Members or made public as each family chooses)

II. Photos (Old neighborhood and/or family photos – same procedure as above)

III. Interviews with grandparents, parents, long-time residents with your cell phone or if you have a video camera these can be also uploaded to the site for use in the documentary. (That way, no one has to have someone travel to film an interview, but that can also be arranged in needed)

IV. Research

A. Chicago Historical Society (On-line Research – Wiki
Links, etc.)
B. Library (Local libraries can get info for you from Chicago
Main library)
C. Restaurants *
D. Clubs (Histories of Modesto, PoPiedmont, Westside)
E. Churches (We would include briefly Churches in the
immediate vicinity because of the ethnic diversity of the
parishioners – Our Lady of Vilna, St. Paul, St. Stephen,
and, of course, history of St.Michaels)

*E.g., talk with past and current Restaurant Owners regarding their families history/restaurant experience.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Please contact Lido at [email protected] or reply on the Face Book Page to volunteer and I can assist and ideas of what you like to work on. Of course, if you think of anything else, additional ideas, etc, .pass it on to Lido. Also any new comments, procedures and ideas can also be shared on the Face Book Page.

We would like to move forward ASAP, so gather what info you’re working on, and bring it to the next meeting on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH AT WESTSIDE at 1:00 p.m.

May the “Force” be with you!
