The Mormo is a fearsome spirit from Ancient Greece mythology, closely associated with fear, darkness, and the dangers of the night. In ancient tradition, Mormo was one of several supernatural beings invoked to frighten children into behaving or to keep them away from unsafe places. Rather than being tied to a single, fixed legend, Mormo appears in various Greek stories as a mysterious bogey-like figure whose appearance and nature could change from one tale to another.

According to legend, Mormo wanders dark roads, lonely houses, abandoned ruins, and other deserted places after sunset. These isolated locations were believed to be haunted by restless spirits and supernatural forces, making them fitting domains for such a terrifying being. Travelers who ventured alone at night were warned to remain cautious, as the spirit was said to lurk just beyond the edge of the light.

Many stories describe eerie signs before an encounter. Strange whispers carried by the wind, unexplained cries echoing through empty streets, and an unsettling silence are often linked to Mormo's presence. Although the spirit rarely reveals itself openly, these mysterious sounds are believed to warn that something unnatural is watching from the darkness.

Unlike many mythological creatures, Mormo has no single, universally accepted appearance. Ancient accounts vary considerably, reflecting the creature's supernatural nature. However, many descriptions portray it with ghostly pale skin, long claw-like fingers, and glowing eyes that shine through the night, giving it a frightening and otherworldly presence.

Its most terrifying features are its twisted face and unnatural smile. Legends often describe its expression as deeply unsettling, combining human and monstrous characteristics in a way that inspires fear at first sight. These exaggerated features made Mormo an effective figure in cautionary tales, reinforcing its role as a symbol of the unknown dangers that lurk after dark.

A Catholic priest has recalled conversations with a diocesan exorcist who believed that Ouija boards were a common factor in many of the alleged possession cases he investigated.

According to the priest, who worked closely with a fellow cleric serving as an exorcist, the exorcist estimated that approximately 85% of the cases brought to him involved some form of prior engagement with Ouija boards or similar occult practices.

The claim reflects a longstanding concern within the Catholic Church regarding attempts to communicate with spirits through divination, séances, fortune-telling, and related activities. Catholic teaching discourages such practices, viewing them as spiritually harmful and contrary to trust in God.
