recognizes Tobie Shinkle, an At-Risk Transitional Teacher for Grades 7-12 at Westwood High School in CCSD1 and YES House in Gillette. Tobie is an exceptionally versatile educator, teaching subjects from P.E. to English and serving as a mentor to diverse Y.E.S. House students. Her greatest strength is building authentic, trusting relationships, which she recognizes as foundational for learning, especially for students facing challenges. She provides a stable adult presence, helping students recover academic credit and manage transitions. Tobie has expertly created a trauma-informed classroom—a safe, predictable sanctuary where students with complex life events can heal and access their education.

Happy World Literacy Day! 📚 is focusing on literacy with one unified goal: ensuring every child in Wyoming can read at grade level. We are tackling this through several exciting statewide partnerships and investments:

🔹 Wyoming Language and Literacy Act: This new law establishes the Wyoming language and literacy program and defines a coordinated systems approach to language and literacy, which includes evidence-aligned language and literacy materials and practices, Dyslexia and Universal screening, Multi-Tiered System of Supports, and professional development.

🔹 Structured Literacy PD: offers statewide professional development for elementary and secondary educators in the science of reading, in collaboration with Cox Campus.

🔹 New Educator Pathways: The University of Wyoming and the PTSB are creating a new Dyslexia Specialist endorsement to prepare future educators to support students better.

🔹 Ellbogen Fellowship: Thanks to a generous $16,500 grant from the John P. Ellbogen Foundation, up to 100 Wyoming educators will earn national KPEERI certification.

🔹 Major Funding: The WDE and Subgrantee Districts are putting the $24.4 million Comprehensive Literacy State Development federal grant to work, and with competitive grants to improve local literacy instruction!

🔹WordFlight Grant: WordFlight, a fully funded evidence-based, award-winning reading intervention for struggling readers in grades 3-5, is available to all schools in Wyoming! This is aligned with SF59 and includes PD hours and Coaching. Ensuring all students read and write successfully requires a true coalition.

Listening to the Body. The final pillar of our Wild and Wide Open Wellness campaign is about safety—both physical and internal. It’s about teaching kids to respect their own boundaries and recognize their needs.

🚩Try This: Help your child identify "red flags" in their body, like a racing heart or a tummy ache. These are signals that they might need to ask for help before a meltdown happens.
😃 The Goal: Teach the "why" behind digital and personal boundaries. When kids understand how screen time affects their mood, they are more empowered to set their own limits.

During the Educator Leadership Rendezvous, educators, counselors, and school leaders step into the boots of Guard members for high-intensity leadership training, such as:

🎯 Tactical Teamwork: Where participants test communication and trust under pressure in a squad-vs-squad paintball competition.

Thanks to the Wyoming Army and Air National Guard for giving educators a chance to gain military leadership skills and become more knowledgeable about military career pathways!
