Welcome to “Mr. DW's Art Room”. This is a place that will help inspire insight, curiosity and the creativity in all of us My name is David J.

Winsch and I have been teaching K-6 Art for 8 years at Laramie County School District Number 2 in southeast Wyoming. My district is just east of Cheyenne, WY. I spilt my time between four elementary schools that are named after the communities they serve. You are probably shocked that I teach at four schools and to be honest I was shocked too when I was told that I would be teaching at four school

🎨💐 Happy Mother’s Day from Art with DW & Mr. DW’s Artroom 💐🎨
Today we celebrate all the moms, grandmas, stepmoms, foster moms, pet moms, and mother figures who inspire creativity, kindness, patience, and love every single day.

Thank you for encouraging imagination, hanging up our artwork like it belongs in a museum, supporting creativity, and helping young artists grow into themselves. ❤️

You are the heart behind so many masterpieces.

Wishing you a beautiful Mother’s Day filled with love, laughter, creativity, and maybe just a little less glitter to clean up today. ✨🎨

Ah yes… the dream job:
Covered in paint, explaining for the 47th time that glue is not a snack, and convincing students that stick figures do count as a starting point.
But honestly—this is it.
A good life isn’t clean or easy… it’s getting to pursue your passion, even when it’s chaotic.
For me, that’s printmaking, strappos, Wyoming fish, and helping students realize they’re more creative than they think (even when they fight it). 🎨

Even outside the classroom, art is everywhere.

Today’s reminder: light, color, and perspective aren’t just things we study they’re things we experience.
Challenge for my students:

👉 Go outside and find your own “unexpected art moment.”

Happy Easter from Art with DW & Mr. DW’s Artroom 🎨🐰
Spring is a reminder that creativity, like life, is always renewing—new ideas, new growth, new beginnings.
Whether you're in the classroom or creating on your own, keep exploring, keep making, and don’t be afraid to get a little messy along the way.

Today, any good artist… I did some science. 🔥🧪
Made a few tiny pinch pots and decided to “see what happens” with raku glazes + a microwave kiln. Because nothing says responsible adult like mixing fire and curiosity on a weeknight.
Noticed the thin spots, the glaze pools, the little surprises. Control? Optional. Chaos? Invited.
Testing things out now so we can turn up the heat at the 2026 WyAEA Spring Conference in Laramie (March 21–22, plus a Friday night at the museum on the 20th).
Art class… but make it experimental. 🔥🏺

We need leaders who choose justice over profit, humanity over headlines, and service over self.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s words still challenge us today to reflect on the kind of leadership we support and the values we live by. May we keep pushing for a world rooted in equity, compassion, and courage.
