Look at this, Tyler v. Hennepin County, Minnesota.

A US Supreme court case on who gets the “Surplus Money”.

Now let me first explain what “Surplus Money” is.

See when the house is foreclosed there’s usually a Surplus Money in the property that banks or the government don’t want you to know.

Let’s say for example, on a $200,000 property, Homeowner owes $50,000 to the bank or the government because the homeowner could not make their payment.

The government or the bank sells the house for an insanely low price of about $150,000 so that it can sell fast so they can get paid.

Now let’s do some math, 🤓

$200,000 property gets sold for $150,000 which is then used to pay $50,000 owed to the bank or the government which leaves a surplus of $100,000. Do you know what happens to that extra $100,000?

Nothing,

It just sits in the government billion dollar vault until banks collect it or the government keeps it themselves.

That’s why they don’t want you to know this otherwise they don’t get to keep it.

So here’s the story: In 2015, Ms Tyler’s house was foreclosed by Hennepin County, Minnesota to cover a $15,000 property tax bill.

But the property was sold for $40,000 by the county..

So In 2019 Ms. Geraldine Tyler Sued Hennepin County, Minnesota because there was a dispute over who gets the “Surplus money”.

Property sold for $40,000 subtracted by the tax bill of $15,000 you have a SURPLUS of $25,000.

SO, Ms Tyler claimed that Surplus Money belonged to her whereas Hennepin County, Minnesota said it belonged to them.

Hennepin County, Minnesota fought tooth and nail with Ms. Tyler and finally after 4 years of long legal battle the judge ruled it in favor of Ms. Tyler on May 25, 2023.
