Our students walked through the doors today taller, older, and just a little different than we remember them. A few nervous smiles, a lot of excited hugs, and stories about summer adventures spilling out before they even reached their classrooms.

To our returning friends: welcome back! We've missed you.

To our newest Otters: welcome! Give it a week and you'll feel like you've always belonged here. 🦦

Here's to a year full of growth and joy!

🎭 Week Two of OFS Summer Theater — what a finale!

It’s been an incredible week of tech leading up to the campers’ original show, “My Letter to a Dream” — their adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s My Neighbour Totoro. Here’s what our Grades 2–8 campers got up to:

🎭 MONDAY: The campers set up the stage and audience space (it looked beautiful!), working out details for each character’s environment. They also ran parts of the script and worked on memorising lines and projection.

💃 TUESDAY: A big day of physical work! The campers finished their dance with Lisa Pawley, practiced their original song, and did a full run of the show — with props and without scripts!

🎨 WEDNESDAY: A full tech and costume run in the morning (facepaint included!) followed by a dress rehearsal in the afternoon. The campers focused on bringing their characters to life beyond the lines and smoothing out scene transitions.

🎬 THURSDAY: Assistant stage manager Alara came in to help run the show! After two full runs, the campers were officially performance-ready!

🍕 FRIDAY: Showtime! The day kicked off with a cast party — pizza and a screening of My Neighbor Totoro — before the campers performed TWO shows: one for their fellow campers at 1 PM and one for parents and the OFS community at 2:30 PM!

These students have been truly inspiring — motivated, committed, and endlessly supportive of one another. Their passion for telling a story of healing, wonder, and friendship shone through in a performance that touched the whole community. We are so honored to have witnessed them use their voices to create meaningful art. Bravo, campers!

🎓✨ Congratulations, Class of 2026!

On May 29, we gathered to celebrate two extraordinary graduates of Oneness-Family High School: Christian Don and Seyrah Tchoufa!

Surrounded by family, teachers, and peers, Christian and Seyrah crossed the stage and into the next chapter of their lives. It was a beautiful reminder of what makes our close-knit community so special—we don’t just watch our students grow, we grow alongside them.

At OFHS, our students grow as global citizens through experiential learning, small classes, community internships, and a Leadership program that prepares them to take on the complex challenges of the 21st century. Christian and Seyrah embody that mission, and we can’t wait to see the difference they make in the world.

Once part of the Oneness family, always part of the Oneness family. Congratulations, graduates—we are so proud of you!

🎓 On June 5, we gathered to celebrate a beautiful milestone: the graduation of our four 8th grade students – Mason Ross, Nicholas Fisher, Avery-Mae McAfee, and Benjamin Regen. We are so proud of who you are and who you are becoming.

A heartfelt thank you to our middle school teachers, Hannah Chick and Pearl Brown, for the deep commitment they bring to their students every year — and for the relationships they build that truly last a lifetime.

In his graduation address, school founder Andrew Kutt shared words from the writer Toni Morrison: “Dream the world as it ought to be. Don’t let anybody, anybody convince you this is the way the world is and therefore must be. It must be the way it ought to be.”

At Oneness-Family School, we are fortunate to spend our days with young people who embody that spirit. Our students are, at their heart, kind, brave, and curious. They are dreamers who see clearly what we as adults sometimes forget – that the world can be more compassionate, more just, more peaceful, and more connected than it is today. They remind us that change begins with imagination, courage, and a willingness to care for one another.

As we celebrate this milestone, we honor not only what our graduates have accomplished, but the hope they carry forward into the future. Congratulations, Class of 2026!

☀️Hot days call for cool learning!

Our Peace Weavers (ages 3–6) are thriving in the DC summer heat with hands-on discovery inspired by our Montessori approach.

Last week, Teachers Melissa and Carina turned the playground into an art studio. Students created silhouettes by lying on the warm ground while a fine spray traced their outlines. Body awareness, cause and effect, and pure summer joy, all in one activity!

Then came the big dig: tiny archaeologists patiently excavating treasures frozen in ice. Watching them problem-solve, take turns with tools, and marvel as each object emerged... that’s concentration, fine motor work, and wonder, the Montessori way. 🧊

At Oneness-Family School the heat doesn’t slow us down. It becomes the curriculum.

🎭 Week One of OFS Summer Theater is a WRAP!

Our campers in Grades 2–8 have had an absolute blast kicking off their adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s classic, My Neighbour Totoro! Here’s a peek at everything they got up to this week:

🎨 MONDAY: The campers hit the ground running, designing their world with sets and props, choosing characters, and diving into the big themes of the Totoro story: imagination, nature, healing, and friendship.

✂️ TUESDAY: The morning was all about adding details to the large set pieces and handmaking costume elements, plus work on the puppets, a super important part of the show! In the afternoon, the campers mapped out more of their story and practiced a song.

🌲 WEDNESDAY: Sets = FINISHED! The campers also wrote lyrics for a song and worked SO hard on their puppets and props, including a giant paper tree!

📖 THURSDAY: Scripts are in hand! The campers started learning songs and blocking many of their scenes. The show is really coming to life!

💃 FRIDAY: The week wrapped up with an amazing dance class from OFS teacher Lisa Pawley, and the campers kept polishing their sets and props so everything is ready before tech week!

We are SO proud of these hardworking campers — and the best part? At the end of the two weeks, they’ll be performing their show for the OFS Summer community! Stay tuned!

Before heading out for another day of outdoor exploration, our Earth Keepers take a moment to fuel their adventures with a healthy apple snack! 🍎

This week has been packed with exciting experiences in nature. After exploring the trails and wildlife of Patuxent Research Wildlife Refuge yesterday, campers were ready for a relaxing and fun-filled day at Cunningham Falls State Park today, where they enjoyed the lake and beautiful mountain scenery.

Whether hiking, observing wildlife, splashing in the water, or spending time outdoors with friends, our Earth Keepers are learning firsthand about the flora and fauna of the DMV.

Our Little Explorers had a wonderful first week of summer programs diving into the fascinating world of caterpillars! 🐛🌿

Inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and Everybody Loves Butterflies by Tanis Taylor, our toddler students explored the caterpillar life cycle through stories, hands-on art projects, and plenty of discovery. Along the way, they enjoyed water play, practiced their tumbling skills with our friends from MyGym of Bethesda, and discovered the wonders of nature through stories, art, and movement.

We can’t wait to see what new adventures await as our Little Explorers continue their summer journey. Next week, we’ll be buzzing into the wonderful world of bees! 🐝

Earth Keepers 2026 is off to an amazing start! 🌿🥾

Our campers kicked off the week on Monday with a hike along the Muddy Branch Trail in Darnestown, MD, followed by some refreshing creek wading to cool off in the beautiful summer weather. On Tuesday, they took on a section of the Appalachian Trail, climbing South Mountain in Knoxville, MD, to enjoy the breathtaking views from Weverton Cliffs.

With gorgeous weather, curious explorers, and miles of trails ahead, we’re excited for even more adventures this week—including a visit to Brookside Gardens and Nature Center tomorrow! Through hands-on exploration of the natural world, Earth Keepers campers are discovering the diverse ecosystems, landscapes, and wildlife of the DMV region.
