Body Informed

Body Informed Body Informed offers Voice and Alexander Technique lessons grounded in awareness, ease and choice. Your body holds information.

We listen, respond and build from what's already there.

You can want to become a better singer.
You can work on your range, you can develop your technique, you can want more consistency and you don't have to spend your entire lesson looking for what's wrong with you. Good teaching doesn't have to begin with fixing - sometimes it begins with understanding.

The way you brace, hold, tighten, or prepare probably developed for a reason.
Maybe it helped, maybe it worked, maybe it made something feel more predictable - but that doesn't mean you have to keep doing it forever.
We also don't need to shame the pattern in order to change our relationship with it.
We can start with curiosity.

I'm less interested in teaching you how to constantly "fix" your body than I am in helping you understand it.
Your body holds information.
We listen, respond and build from what's already there.

Sometimes we assume that if we're holding tension, the answer must be to release it, but what if the more useful question is: “Do I have a choice here?”
Maybe you soften, maybe you don't. Maybe you discover that the thing you were holding wasn't actually causing a problem. The goal isn't constant relaxation - it's greater freedom to respond.

Sometimes being told to relax is exactly what makes us realize how much we're holding, and then relaxing becomes another thing we're trying to accomplish. Instead of immediately asking yourself to release the tension, try noticing it: where is it, when does it appear? What happens just before it? You don't have to change what you notice. Awareness doesn't have to be a command.

One of the hardest things to let go of is the voice we used to have: The high notes that felt easier, the stamina we remember, the consistency we wish we hadn't lost.

But your voice isn't asking you to sing with yesterday's body - it's asking you to listen to today's.

Every lesson, every practice session, every beginning starts in the same place: right here. Not with comparison, not with catching up, not with trying to make up for lost time. Just with noticing what's true today - and building from there.

That's where meaningful progress begins.

One of the biggest fears singers have after taking time away is, "I've lost everything," but learning isn't stored only in your voice.

Your ears still know how to listen. Your musical understanding is still there. Your body remembers patterns you've practiced before - even if they feel a little rusty at first.

The first practice session back isn't about proving where you are. It's about reconnecting.

Instead of expecting yourself to pick up exactly where you left off, try meeting today's voice with curiosity.

We don't ask if someone is "serious enough" to take a painting class or learn photography. Singing deserves the same generosity.
Whether your stage is church, karaoke, community theatre, or your own living room, your voice is worth developing.
Fall lesson spots are now open.

Life interrupts all of us. Whether you've been away from singing for a few weeks or a few years, your journey isn't erased. Beginning again isn't a setback—it's part of learning.

This is one of the most honest questions I hear.
And it makes sense.
If effort has been holding things together, it feels like the only option.
But there may be another kind of support available - one that doesn’t rely on force.
