Our Mission

The Brookline Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Brookline’s commitment to excellence in public education. The BEF raises private funds to support innovative teaching, administrative leadership, professional development, and community participation in the schools. History

From its start in 1981 as one of the first private local education funds in

the country, the BEF has raised over $4 million for the Brookline Public Schools. Supporters and donors include parents, citizens, and businesses who share the belief that strong public schools are essential to the quality of life and future well-being of the town. Today, the BEF is one of the largest and most innovative local education funds in Massachusetts. The BEF Today

The BEF works closely with the Brookline School Department in a unique partnership, identifying needs and opportunities where its efforts can make a difference to teachers and children. BEF monies are used to fund new approaches to professional development and systemwide improvements that the schools could not otherwise afford. The BEF seeks out and supports innovation and leadership among teachers and administrators alike. It looks for leverage opportunities where its programs can generate funds from other public and private sectors.

As the school year comes to a close, we've had the privilege of celebrating the incredible educators and staff who dedicate themselves to Brookline students every day.

Their creativity, commitment and passion inspire us, and thanks to the support of our donors, BEF is proud to help bring many of their innovative ideas to life through classroom grants.

As the school year draws to a close, we want to recognize and thank the Public Schools of Brookline employees who have dedicated 30 or 31 years of service to our schools.

Thirty years of service represents thousands of students taught, supported, encouraged and inspired. We are deeply grateful to these educators, nurses, custodians and staff members whose commitment has made a lasting impact on generations of Brookline students and families.

Many of these longtime employees received BEF grants throughout their careers. In fact, BEF support is consistently cited as one of the reasons educators choose to stay in Brookline, giving them opportunities to innovate, collaborate, and bring new ideas to their classrooms and schools.

As we celebrate these remarkable milestones, please consider making a gift to the BEF. Your support helps fund innovative grants and programs that empower Brookline educators and enrich the educational experience for every student.

We’re grateful to the Brookline Community Foundation for awarding us a $10,000 grant through its 2026 Youth Development Grant program!

This funding will support our 2027 Idea Lab Grants, helping Brookline educators pilot new and innovative, hands-on learning opportunities to their students.
