CSON and the Massachusetts Center for Police Training in Crisis Intervention (The Center) co-hosted the Department of Mental Health’s (DMH)14th Annual Mental Health and Law Enforcement Conference on June 10th. The event brought together clinicians, researchers, and law enforcement leaders to strengthen crisis response, advance jail diversion, and improve outcomes. Proud to be a part of this important work.

Effectiveness of a novel midwifery preceptor program on midwives’ competence and confidence in Sierra Leone: A prospective pilot study 05/15/2026

Important new research from Brittney van de Water, Ashley Holmes Longacre, and colleagues, published in PLOS Global Public Health.

The study evaluates a novel midwifery preceptor program in Sierra Leone, where strengthening clinical education and mentorship has a direct impact on maternal and newborn health. Through a sustained, hands-on model of training and support, the program helped midwife preceptors build greater clinical competence, confidence, and teaching ability.

It's a powerful example of public health research moving beyond measurement alone and into the work of building capacity, strengthening education, and improving care.
