Join us Saturday, October 10, as we come together to recognize World Homeless Day, honor this important day with a special proclamation, and learn how we can work together to address housing instability and support our neighbors in need.

We are collecting donations for nonperishable food, new underwear, socks, gloves, and hats. Seeking volunteers for the Samaritan Winter Shelter.

Discover the beautiful tradition of Pressed Yarn Art, and learn Francisco’s distinctive technique of transforming colorful yarn into art. Attendees will have the chance to create their own piece of art.

Eñe, The KCA, and Kent County Local Management Board are hosting an incredible opportunity for a workshop with Francisco Loza this Saturday October 3rd to learn his pressed yarn technique, create your own piece, and be inspired by this unique form.

Arte de Estambre, or Pressed Yarn Art, uses colorful yarn that is cut, shaped, and adhered to wooden surfaces with wax.

The workshop is open to all ages, but participants 10 and under should bring an adult.

Preparations are underway to open the annual Winter Shelter for unhoused people, hosted by the Samaritan Group of Kent County with the support of multiple individual volunteers and community partners. Pastor James Diggs, Board President and Winter Shelter Director, has announced a search to fill the newly created position of Assistant Program Manager. “Adding December as the fourth month of the Shelter’s operations last year created an obvious need for more person-power to manage the Shelter seven days a week.” says Diggs. “ We also welcome new and returning volunteers to fill out the demanding schedule of four months of nightly service.”

The Assistant Program Manager will be expected to work approximately 20 hours per week from December 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027. Duties will include Shelter management on the weekends, from Friday evening through Monday morning, and an array of other duties related to coordinating volunteers, collaborating with community partners, and insuring that Shelter supplies and operations meet the needs of guests and the community as a whole.

“We know we are looking for a special person,” Diggs continued. “Our new Assistant Program Manager needs to be a kind and compassionate communicator with good boundaries and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. At the same time, they need organizational and administrative skills, a flexible schedule and reliable transportation. This job will rewarding and challenging to the person who wants on the ground experience providing essential human services to an often overlooked population. We look forward to receiving applications for this important addition to our team, and to a successful Shelter season ahead.”
