We're looking for businesses, organizations and community members to adopt classrooms for the upcoming academic year. The 2026-27 KCMS Adopt-A-Classroom initiative is an opportunity to invest in students and build a community. Each classroom partnership begins with a $200 investment, providing teachers with flexible funding for school supplies, instructional materials and resources that help students succeed from the very first day of school. To learn how you can be a part of the KCMS Adopt-A-Classroom program, email Christine Clark at [email protected].

Kent County Middle School is looking for one or two volunteer coaches for a new program for girls. This fall, we are launching Girls on the Run: Heart and Sole. Making a lasting impact on the lives of our girls in grades 6 to 8, through this fun, research-based program builds confidence, resilience and healthy habits. No running or coaching experience is required โ€” just a willingness to encourage and support our students. Coaches receive all the training and resources needed. The 8-week season runs from mid-September through the end of November, with practices twice a week from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Interested in making a difference? Learn more about coaching at www.gotrchesapeake.org/coach or reach out to Christine Clark at [email protected].

On Friday, June 5, KCMS held its 3rd Annual End-of-the-School-Year Title I Family Fun Night on the school lawn. The outdoor event was a tremendous success, welcoming more than 200 students, family members, and community partners for an evening filled with fun, connection, and relaxation.

Students and families had the opportunity to receive FREE summer reading books provided by the Chestertown Bookplate while also connecting with a variety of community organizations and resources. Participating partners included Chesapeake College TRIO Upward Bound, the YMCA, Kent County Community Center/Parks & Recreation, Boys & Girls Club, Kent County Health Department, Minaryโ€™s Dream Alliance, Choptank Community Health, NAMI, Hope Fellowship, and many others.

The event provided a wonderful opportunity for families to come together, celebrate the end of the school year, and learn about valuable resources available throughout the community. Thank you to all of our families, community partners, volunteers, and staff members who helped make this event such a memorable success.

Good evening, KCMS families,

This is Mark Buckel, the proud principal of Kent County Middle School, with your weekly Sunday update.

It is hard to believe that we have reached the end of another school year. This will be my final Sunday message for 2025-26. While this year brought many emotional challenges, I am so proud of how we have navigated them together as a school family. As we head into the summer, please remember that the school system remains available to support our students and families whenever needed.

On a celebratory note, this is the week we promote our 8th-grade students! Our 2025-26 promotion ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. this Thursday, June 11. For those without tickets, the event will be live-streamed on the KCPS YouTube channel. Students will receive their tickets during practice on Tuesday; if you find you have extras, we encourage you to share them with other families. Due to limited space, we are unable to provide additional tickets. Please note that once the ceremony concludes on Thursday, our 8th graders are dismissed for the summer and do not need to attend school on Friday, June 12. We wish our rising freshmen tremendous success as they move on to Kent County High School!

Finally, I want to give a huge KCMS shout out to everyone who joined us for Friday's final Title I family engagement event! It was a fantastic Family Fun Night, and we owe a debt of gratitude to Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Clark, and the entire team for coordinating such a wonderful celebration. With great weather and so many families and friends in attendance, it was a perfect way to close out the year!

Good evening, KCMS families,

This is Mark Buckel, the proud principal of Kent County Middle School, with your weekly Sunday update.

I would like to send a huge KCMS congratulations to all of our families who celebrated a KCHS graduate this past Friday! It truly takes a village, and our entire staff is incredibly proud of your childrenโ€™s achievements. Congratulations to all on reaching such a significant milestone in life.

As we move into the second to last week of the school year, please remind your students that we are still hard at work here at KCMS. This week, students will participate in the end-of-year MAP assessments during their various classes. Please encourage your child to do their best on these assessments, as the results are used to help determine course placements here at the middle school and at KCHS for our rising freshmen.

Finally, I must give a tremendous KCMS shout out to our incredible staff for their hard work in making last Thursday's Field Day such a success! We owe a special debt of gratitude to Christine Clark, Steve Miller, Anna Farragher, Gil Clampitt, TyRay Johnson, and Kelley Melvin for their tireless planning and coordination. It was an "all hands on deck" performance, and we are so thankful to every staff member who managed a station and joined in the festivities! Additionally, we want to express our heartfelt thanks to Annette Duckery and the Kent County Health Department; their generous donation of the inflatables made the day even more memorable. Don't forget to watch the linked video to see highlights of our students and staff enjoying Field Day, https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bChi3snxNyps6jWaulpdsuTw0dVejv-v/view?usp=drive_link
