Trojan Guard Captures Gold with Distinction at ISSMA Invitational!

The Chesterton High School Trojan Guard received a Gold Rating with multiple Distinctions this past weekend at the ISSMA Invitational at Plymouth High School. In addition to scoring well enough to receive the highest rating possible, a Gold Rating, the marching band also received a General Effect Distinction and a Visual Distinction for their outstanding work.

Senior Jayden is a featured trombone soloist during the 3rd Movement and was very excited to get to perform his solo for such a big audience. “The trombone feature is truly one of the highlights of the show, and it was awesome to hear the crowd respond to it!” Assistant Director Vince Arizzi agrees. “We don’t usually have trombones in our TG shows,” Arizzi explains. “So to have Jayden featured on bass trombone, accompanied by 13 other trombonists…it’s a memorable experience for all of us!”

On October 10, the Trojan Guard will begin their post-season at the ISSMA Marching Band Regionals at Lafayette Jefferson HS. To continue on to Semi-State, they will have to meet a higher scoring threshold while placing in the top 20 Class A bands in the State.

The public’s final chance to come and support the Trojan Guard performing their award-winning production of “The Eleventh Hour” is on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 5:00 PM at the CHS Stadium. This 40-minute performance is free and open to the public and will include: explanation of the creation and design elements of the show and recognition of the Trojan Guard senior class, followed by the performance of the show. This will be the community’s last chance to see the Trojan Guard’s 2026 competitive program, so mark your calendar!

The CHS Trojan Guard Marching Band gave another strong performance this past weekend at the Concord Invitational. The competition featured 19 talented bands from across Northern Indiana. The Trojan Guard competed well, capturing 3rd place in Open Class A at the Concord Invitational! Trojan Guard also brought home the People’s Choice Award!

The Trojan Guard’s competition season keeps pushing forward as the band competes next at the ISSMA Open Class Invitational in Plymouth on October 3. The Trojan Guard will also host its annual Community Night Performance at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the CHS Stadium. The event will be free and open to the public.

It’s Marching Band Season! The Chesterton High School Trojan Guard Marching Band participated in the Goshen High School Invitational on Sept. 12th to compete alongside 23 other Northern Indiana bands in Goshen, Indiana. The 124-member Trojan Guard made an impressive statement early in the season capturing fourth place in Open Class A, the largest and most competitive class in the state of Indiana.

The Trojan Guard’s 2026 field show, entitled “The 11th Hour”, explores the anxiousness, transformation, and resilience found as the clock ticks down. Midnight looms at the ball, where meeting a charming stranger makes time both stand still and race. The musical selections draw from “Time” by Pink Floyd, “Time in a Bottle” by Jim Croce, “Running Out of Time” by Muse, and “Once Upon a Time” by Sarah Bareilles.

The next local performance by the band will be at the CHS Homecoming football game on Friday, September 25, when the Trojans take on Portage High School. Save the date for Trojan Guard Community Night on Saturday, October 17!
