Well before the rain came in, the students were making it rain. KDO had so much fun using spray bottles in art that they took them outside to water the trees. They also made umbrellas. Discovery kiddos acted like clouds and dropped rain to the floor. They also made rain sticks and played in tubs of water.

St. John’s has turned into a zoo. The RB class had caterpillars and butterflies, the KDO kids had sea monkeys and now the SB class are incubating chicken and quail eggs. A special thanks to farmer Melanie for bringing us live chickens to see and pet!

Ms. Katie spent an extra day with the Rainbows to teach them about Hawaii and her Hawaiian culture. The kids practiced Hawaiian words, did the hula, read books and learned about the history of the islands. Mahalo Ms. Katie!

Spring is the perfect time for some hands-on learning about animals. Ms. Katie’s mom is a beekeeper and taught us about bees and honey. We also had another visit from Ms. Becky from Nature on the Move. The kids learned about bay animals, and which ones come from eggs.

The SB and TB classes have been learning nursery rhymes. Learning nursery rhymes are an essential pre-reading skill. They introduce new words, develop phonological awareness, introduce basic literacy concepts and engage cognitive skills such as prediction, sequence, and comprehension. If you are looking for an educational show that has a lot of episodes about nursery rhymes, check out Super Why! on PBS.
