Meet Austin Plummer, ๐Ÿ‘‹ PMIMSLโ€™s Director of Membership Engagement & Analytics.

Austin became a member in August 2025 after a layoff gave him the space to explore a career path he had been curious about: project management.

Since then, volunteering has helped him meet people across the chapter with different backgrounds and career paths.

In his role, Austin supports member engagement and retention, creates dashboards to help the chapter better understand membership trends, and helps host Pivot Point Collective meetings.

His favorite part of PMIMSL?

๐Ÿ™Œ โ€œThe people.โ€

He says it has been encouraging to hear how others found their way into project management and to see firsthand that PMs come from all kinds of backgrounds.

Dan Jackson, VP of Membership, shared:

โ€œAustin has been a great addition to the chapter. He came in eager to learn, took time to understand what the chapter needed, and then executed. His path is a great example of what volunteering can look like at PMIMSL. He started with a couple of hours a month, found the right role, and grew into a Director position as he became more engaged.โ€

Weโ€™re grateful ๐Ÿ™ to have Austin helping guide membership engagement and connection across the chapter.

Starting with a solid foundation can make every project a ๐Ÿ˜‰ little easier.

A well-built template can save hours of setup and help keep projects organized from the start. Instead of creating documents from a blank page, you can spend more time planning and collaborating.

Templates can also improve the way you use AI. Giving AI a ๐Ÿค– structured framework makes it easier to generate stronger prompts and outputs that fit the needs of your project.

If you haven't explored Project Management Institute's template ๐Ÿ“š๏ธ library, this is a great time to take another look. You might find a resource that saves you time on your very next project.

What do โœˆ๏ธ aviators and project managers have in common? Lots of moving โš™๏ธ parts!

Mechanics, pilots, air traffic controllers, ground crews, and airport teams all play a role in keeping each flight on course. Project managers do the same by coordinating people, timelines, resources, and communication to help every part come together.

And project managers who ALSO work in aviation?? ๐Ÿ˜œ Good luck!

Happy National Aviation Day from PMI Metro St. Louis!

Project Management Institute has shared a few updates worth ๐Ÿ‘€ reviewing before you finalize your study plan. The updated version will be available, and both lead to the same PMPยฎ certification.

A few things to note: domain weights are changing, new focus areas include AI, sustainability, and value delivery, and the exam time increases to 240 minutes.

If PMPยฎ certification is on your ๐Ÿ“– goal list, check your prep materials and make sure they line up with the right exam version.

When you show up to a PMIMSL event, youโ€™re walking into a room with a real mix of project ๐ŸŽ“๏ธ experience.

Some members are newer to the field. Some have been leading projects for decades. A lot are somewhere in the middle, building on what they know while still learning from the people around them.

Thatโ€™s one of the best parts of this chapter.

Thereโ€™s ๐Ÿ‘ space for early-career PMs, seasoned leaders, career changers, mentors, question-askers, and people who simply want to be around others who understand the work.

We had the pleasure of interviewing the current ๐Ÿ’ผ VP of Professional Development, Ellen Jeffries.

She told us about what she has accomplished in this role and what she hopes the next VP will continue.

Read the full interview below:

๐ŸŒ Whatโ€™s been your focus while being the VP of Professional Development?
"My focus has been providing high-quality professional development opportunities that help members earn PDUs while also preparing them for the evolving workforce. We intentionally combined AI topics with career development, personal branding, and practical skills to support project managers navigating today's job market."

๐ŸŒ How has your department impacted the chapter?
"Our department helped keep the chapter relevant by offering timely content that addressed both emerging technologies and career readiness. We created opportunities for members to gain valuable knowledge while strengthening engagement within the chapter."

๐ŸŒ Whatโ€™s been your biggest takeaway or learning in this role?
"My biggest takeaway has been that balancing valuable content with budget constraints is one of the greatest challenges, especially when trying to secure quality speakers. I've also learned that members are looking for practical guidance that helps them adapt to the changing profession."

๐ŸŒ What have you enjoyed most or what has been a big win?
"The most rewarding part has been collaborating with our members and seeing their engagement throughout our events. A big win was expanding our programming beyond AI to include career readiness and the future of project management, which really resonated with attendees."

๐ŸŒ What would you tell the next Professional Development VP?
"Continue evolving the program by engaging more chapter volunteers and local experts to deliver affordable, high-value content. Also, consider broadening the focus beyond AI as the topic matures, while continuing to emphasize the future of project management and the skills members need to stay competitive."

Thank you to Ellen for your insight!

And remember: ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ Elections are coming up, so send in your nominations!
