Imagine if kindergarten were actually built for children.
More movement. More play. More joy.
Fewer delays. Fewer referrals. Fewer “behavior issues.”
Brains would wire the way they’re meant to.
Teachers could breathe again.
Children would love school instead of surviving it.
It’s not radical. It’s developmentally appropriate.
We don’t need to invent a new solution. We just need to return kindergarten to what worked, before we complicated it into something it was never meant to be.

If our expectations of a child is unrealistic to their individual temperament & unique development, we will be endlessly frustrated by a child’s behaviors.
🌱 Gentle Parenting ≠ Permissive Parenting 🌱
I recently watched this discussion on The Tamara Brown Show (clip below), where childcare providers expressed their frustrations with how “gentle parenting” is showing up in classrooms. Their point: “gentle parenting” results in children with no sense of boundaries or consequences - leading to hitting, biting, throwing things, and resisting adult guidance (I see this ALL THE TIME in my classrooms).
Here’s the truth: gentle parenting isn’t supposed to mean “anything goes.”
When practiced as intended, gentle parenting is:
✨ Respectful and relationship-based
✨ Rooted in understanding a child’s temperament and emotions
✨ Focused on logical and natural consequences (not punishments)
✨ About teaching skills, not scaring kids into compliance
The confusion happens when “gentle” gets watered down into dismissive parenting - where children have all the power and adults hesitate to set limits. That is NOT the goal.
Children need structure & boundaries - they crave them & thrive with them! They feel safe when adults lead with both compassion and authority. True gentle parenting is discipline with respect and dignity - helping kids grow into emotionally intelligent, responsible, and resilient people.
Takeaway for parents:
Be warm but be firm.
Say “yes” to feelings, but “no” to unsafe behaviors.
Guide with respect, but don’t shy away from consequences.
Gentle parenting done right is not permissive - it’s powerful.
It’s not “soft.” It’s skillful.
And our children, their teachers, and our homes benefit when we hold that balance.
Watch the video and let me know your thoughts!
Do you see this confusion happening in your circles, too?
