Now Available: The 2024 Nation's Report Card, including national, state, and district-level results for 4th- and 8th-graders in math and reading.
This is the second post-pandemic report from the National Center for Education Statistics - NCES and the first comprehensive look at whether students' performance has improved since 2022.
*๏ธโฃ In 4th-grade math, students scored higher than in 2022. Many states and districts also saw improvements.
*๏ธโฃ In 8th-grade math, the average score was not significantly different from 2022. Higher-performing students made gains, while scores for lower-performing students decreased.
*๏ธโฃ In 4th-grade reading, the average score was lower than in 2022. Results show 40% of 4th graders scored below the NAEP Basic achievement level - the highest reported in the last 20 years.
*๏ธโฃ In 8th-grade reading, the average score was lower than in 2022, continuing a troubling trend of declining reading achievement that started before the pandemic.
