President Hoover’s Monthly Vlog

President Allison Hoover shares her monthly blog, highlighting the generous donation of a vehicle from an anonymous donor — a gift for which we are incredibly grateful! In our 10th grade English classes, students worked collaboratively to create a map of Macomb, Alabama, the setting of Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Told from Scout Finch’s childhood point of view, the novel introduces readers to the people, places and events that shape Scout and her brother, Jem.

Using a list of important sites, events and people from the novel, students had two challenges: determining the locations of key events and identifying where important people in Scout and Jem’s lives fit within the community.

This hands-on activity orchestrated by Mrs. Sredich, helped students better understand the importance of mapping, reading, imagination and visualization when exploring a novel and its events.

Father Tom Sutherland, founding pastor of St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, passed away Monday, Aug. 17, 2026. We ask the Austin Catholic community to join us in praying for the repose of his soul. May he rest in the peace of Christ and rejoice in the presence of the Lord for eternity.
