It's been a while since we've talked about one of our staff members, so we'll kick off today with one of the best we've ever had! Say hi to Luke! Learn more about him below.
--What's your favorite class in school?--
"My favorite class in school is currently Biotechnology. This science course is unlike any that I have taken in the past, as it is entirely hands-on and lab-based, comparable to what a university lab course would be like. So far, I have been able to perform exciting experiments like DNA extraction from a strawberry and gel electrophoresis, with even more fascinating topics (like CRISPR gene editing) coming soon."
--Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter?
"I have been fortunate enough to travel to many different places across the country and world over my summer breaks, so summer is definitely my favorite holiday. I have toured the Palace of Versailles, walked inside the Korean DMZ, and performed service work at an orphanage in Costa Rica. My travels have taught me so much about the amazing world that we live in, and I would not trade these experiences for anything."
--If you could meet any person, living or dead, whom would it be?
"If I could meet any person, I would choose to meet United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby. As can probably be determined by my response above, I love travel and everything about it. This love includes airplanes, airports, and the logistics of travel as a whole, and I would love to sit down with Mr. Kirby to talk about the considerations that go into his airline’s pricing, route map, airplane purchases, etc."
--What is your favorite sports team?
"For as many autumn Saturdays as I can remember, I have sat myself down on the couch (or, a couple of times, headed into Beaver Stadium) to cheer on the Penn State Nittany Lions football team. Especially in recent years, the Nittany Lions have been exciting to watch and have played in numerous New Year's Six bowl games, and, hopefully, a trip to the College Football Playoff is in their future."
--What about being a tutor excites you?--
"There are many aspects of being a tutor that excite me. First and foremost, nothing compares to the feeling of when something I am teaching finally clicks with a student. It is incredible to be able to help local students succeed and learn, and I am so happy to be a part of The Tutoring Center’s great staff that gets the job done. Also, as this is my first job, being a tutor has taught me fiscal responsibility as well as soft skills like time management and creative thinking, which are essential to any career."
