The graphite still-lifes are coming along in Drawing I! Students are training their eyes to see value, looking for the darkest shadows, the lightest highlights, and the medium tones in-between. These drawings are a big challenge, and the students are rising to meet it! ✏️💪🏻

This week our Wake & Make class started on a new project: identity masks! Here they are preparing plaster face masks using a mold and plaster strips. What a fun (and messy!) way to start the morning! 😊☀️

Drawing I students have been busy artists! This week we held a “skill builder” day to learn graphite drawing techniques. After a demonstration from Ms. Smith on sighting measurements/angles and adding value, the students went to work trying their hand at drawing and shading simple 3D shapes.

Today the artists got to choose a still life set up to draw for their next project! These are long term, very involved graphite pencil drawings that are going to look AMAZING! We can’t wait to show you!

¡Los estudiantes de dibujo I han estado muy ocupados, artistas! Esta semana organizamos un día de "desarrollo de habilidades" para aprender técnicas de dibujo a grafito. Tras una demostración de la Sra. Smith sobre mediciones/ángulos de observación y aportación de valor, los estudiantes se pusieron manos a la obra probando suerte dibujando y sombreando formas 3D sencillas.

¡Hoy los artistas han podido elegir un bodegón para dibujar en su próximo proyecto! ¡Estos son dibujos a lápiz de grafito muy elaborados y de largo plazo que van a quedar INCREÍBLES! ¡Estamos deseando mostrártelo!

Our Intro and Advanced students are currently working on watercolor mandalas! After learning the history and cultural context of mandalas, we studied radial symmetry and came up with our own mandala designs. After adding accents in oil pastel, the students show off their newly acquired watercolor skills. They’re looking incredible! 😍

Our Intro and Advanced Art students have finished their first unit on Drawing, and are ready to move on to their next unit: Painting! In preparation for their new project, we held a Watercolor 101 Bootcamp this week. Students learned six different watercolor techniques (wet-on-dry, dry-on-dry, wet-on-wet, dry-on-wet, blotting, and glazing)! You can see some of our bootcamp samples here, which will later be cut apart and glued into sketchbooks for reference. ✨🖌️

Nuestros estudiantes de Introducción y Arte Avanzado han terminado su primera unidad de Dibujo y están listos para pasar a la siguiente: ¡Pintura! En preparación para su nuevo proyecto, esta semana organizamos un Bootcamp de Acuarela 101. Los estudiantes aprendieron seis técnicas diferentes de acuarela (mojado sobre seco, seco sobre seco, mojado sobre mojado, seco sobre mojado, secado sobre mojado, secado y esmaltado)! Take a look at these beautiful finished projects created by our Wake & Make class!

Wake & Make is a unique class that integrates art, mindfulness, and social-emotional learning. Meeting 1st Period, this class is designed to be a soft start for students who need a space to regulate before beginning their academic classes for the day.

For the “Inner Landscape” project, students learned to discuss emotions using more specific vocabulary from a feelings wheel. They then analyzed several pieces of art to see how famous artists express emotion through their artwork. Each student drew a landscape that represents how they’ve been feeling, and then finally they overlayed a silhouette of their face to show that the landscape is their inner emotional world.

¡Echa un vistazo a estos preciosos proyectos terminados creados por nuestra clase Wake & Make!

Wake & Make es una clase única que integra arte, mindfulness y aprendizaje socioemocional. Meeting 1st Period, esta clase está diseñada para ser un comienzo suave para los estudiantes que necesitan un espacio para regularse antes de comenzar sus clases académicas del día.

Para el proyecto "Paisaje Interior", los estudiantes aprendieron a hablar sobre emociones utilizando un vocabulario más específico de una rueda de sentimientos. Luego analizaron varias obras de arte para ver cómo artistas famosos expresan la emoción a través de sus obras. Cada estudiante dibujó un paisaje que representa cómo se han sentido y, finalmente, superpusieron una silueta de su rostro para mostrar que el paisaje es su mundo emocional interior.

The CHS Art Club were busy jackets this week! 🖤🧡

If you take a close look while driving downtown, you will see storefront windows painted by Art Club members. Their designs are to celebrate the upcoming Homecoming season (the theme is “sunset beach”). They did a fantastic job!

On Saturday morning, our Art Club Officers presented about how they have benefitted from a generous grant awarded by Delta Kappa Gamma. DKG met in the CHS art room and got to hear the students themselves tell how they have been positively impacted by the grant. THANK YOU again to Delta Kappa Gamma for supporting our Art Club and the CHS Art program!

¡El Club de Arte de CHS estuvo ocupado esta semana! 🖤🧡

Si te fijas bien mientras conduces por el centro, verás escaparates pintados por miembros del Club de Arte. Sus diseños son para celebrar la próxima temporada de Homecoming (el tema es "playa al atardecer"). ¡Hicieron un trabajo fantástico!

El sábado por la mañana, los responsables del Club de Arte presentaron cómo se han beneficiado de una generosa subvención otorgada por Delta Kappa Gamma. DKG se reunió en el aula de arte de CHS y pudo escuchar a los propios estudiantes contar cómo la beca les ha impactado positivamente. ¡GRACIAS DE NUEVO a Delta Kappa Gamma por apoyar a nuestro Club de Arte y al programa de Arte de CHS!

Our Drawing I students just finished up a project they put some major effort into! Students chose an organic object to draw (mini peppers were a favorite!). They learned how to create a balanced composition, and then tried out different drawing techniques: shading with graphite pencils, shading with pen and ink, layering colored pencil, and mixing color with pattern! These drawings turned out beautifully, and our Drawing students are so proud!

¡Nuestros estudiantes de Dibujo I acaban de terminar un proyecto en el que han puesto un gran esfuerzo! Los estudiantes eligieron un objeto orgánico para dibujar (¡los mini pimientos eran de sus favoritos!). Aprendieron a crear una composición equilibrada y luego probaron diferentes técnicas de dibujo: sombreado con lápices de grafito, sombreado con pluma y tinta, superposición de lápiz de colores y mezcla de color con patrón. Estos dibujos quedaron preciosos, ¡y nuestros estudiantes de Dibujo están muy orgullosos!

Sculpture students have been working on figures inspired by artist Keith Haring. Along the way they’ve been learning techniques like cardboard and foil armatures, papier mâche, plaster, and acrylic painting. After painting a backdrop for their figures, these artists will have a Keith Haring painting turned 3D!

Los estudiantes de escultura han estado trabajando en figuras inspiradas en el artista Keith Haring. A lo largo del camino han ido aprendiendo técnicas como armaduras de cartón y lámina, papel maché, yeso y pintura acrílica. Después de pintar un fondo para sus figuras, estos artistas tendrán una pintura de Keith Haring convertida en 3D.
