Happy 28 years to us!
Marriage isn’t easy, and anyone who says it is is either a liar, or they’re single 😂 Drew and I were so different from each other in college that people thought we were joking when we said we were dating! Now it’s been 28 years, 3 amazing grown sons, an outstanding daughter-in-law, and an almost-here first grandchild!! All credit and glory to God! He is still working miracles today, and our marriage is one of them. God’s amazing work, some outstanding therapists, prayer, laughter and perseverance are the “secrets’ to a good marriage. I’m beyond grateful for what God has done!! And I love being married to Drew 😍

Oh hey there - I’m Cupcake! I’m a four-year-old Australian labradoodle, expert traveler, professional service dog, and part-time superstar. I’ve got the fluff, the charm, and the zoomies to prove it. I love fetch (I always win), treats (obvi), and stealing socks because . . . fashion. When I’m not making people smile or striking a pose, you’ll find me on long sniffy walks, living my best main character life. Stick around - I’m always accepting new friends (and snacks).

Cupcake has a case of the Mondays 😂 and his prayer for you is “may your coffee be strong, your Monday be short, and may the annoying people be kept far from you until you are caffeinated enough to deal with them” 😂

Have you met Cupcake? As part of brain injury awareness month, I’m proudly showcasing my service dog in training. Cupcake is an Australian Labradoodle and is 18 months old. He’s about a year into training and is so smart!! He has brought me insane amounts of joy as a pet with his unconditional love and snuggles. When he is a big service dog, he will be such a huge help to me! He will help me with mobility issues and retrieving dropped items and getting found when I’m lost. I’m so thankful for my Cupcake!! Do you have a pet? Tell me all about it!

Vertigo as a result of a brain injury messes with more than just your ability to walk a straight line. It can drain you mentally and emotionally and it can be exhausting! And it can be scary when your feet don’t do what you tell them to. We take our ability to walk well for granted. And when it’s threatened, it’s scary. And the fall risks increase when my vertigo is acting up. That LAST thing I need as a brain injury warrior is to fall again 😳

Do you or someone you love battle vertigo? It’s not exclusive to those of us with brain injuries. Vertigo comes with many chronic conditions. If you or someone you love deals with vertigo, share this post to spread awareness

Vertigo - a brain injury symptom. Ugh. This one makes me more anxious than any other symptom. What if I fall? What if I put my foot down wrong and sprain an ankle? What if I face plant in front of all these people? What if I get another co concussion?

Vertigo makes it easy to let fear make my decisions. I am tempted to avoid fun things when I’m battling vertigo for fear of breaking my brain even worse. And I HATE making decisions based on fear.

Vertigo isn’t exclusive to those of us with brain injury. Many other chronic conditions come with vertigo as a symptom. It’s one of the visible indicators of invisible illness. When my vertigo is flaring, I look like I’m a walking drunk. Ugh.

Battle vertigo? Put a 🥴😵 or 😵‍💫in the comments. Love someone who deals with vertigo? Share this post to show your support!

I’m in pain 24/7 - yes, that means all day, every day - as a result of my brain injury. That pain has a major impact on every area of my life. And I hate it. It’s a permanent headache that can spike from a 3 on the healthy person pain scale to a 7 without any warning. What consequence of chronic pain is the worst? Which one os the most surprising?

Pain! Talking brain injury symptoms for Brain Injury Awareness month. I’m in pain 24/7. Yes, that means every minute of every day. Consistent pain doesn’t occur with every brain injury. But many of us battle head pain all the time. That pain can flare and spike with no warning. And meds don’t always help. When I was healthy, it never occurred to me that there were people in pain all the time. Or that meds wouldn’t fix it. That concept was just so foreign to me. And now it’s a way of life - an invisible, controlling, frustrating way of life. Do you battle chronic pain? What’s the worst thing about it? What’s your favorite comfort for a high pain day?
