PEAKE After School Program

The Elementary PEAKE program celebrated the end of another great “after school” year by hosting Realm of the Reptile’s Andrew Hall to teach the kids all about the interesting world of reptiles on Thursday, April 16th. Andrew came all the way from Akron to share information that followed Ohio’s State Science Standards in such a fun way! Students not only got to study several species of snakes, lizards, geckos, and tortoises—but they got the chance to feel their scaly skin, discover how tortoises close themselves into their protective shell, and watch a Burmese python slither across the gym! Students were thrilled to pet the animals and be in pictures with them! At the end of the show, we also loved getting to watch Mrs. Webb kiss a skink! It was a fun & educational experience for all of us! 🐍🐢🦎🥳

STEM Night at the Elementary was held on Tuesday, March 31! The kids had 14 FUN activities to participate in that all revolved around the subjects of science, math, and careers. They flew drones and saw 3D printers at work with the CHS Robitics Team, made “Squishy Circuits” with the 4H Club & OSU Extension Office, and created their own spinning Bristle Bot & Light Up Nametag with PEAKE Teachers! We worked on Cookie Fractions with Miss Connie & ate our creations, planted flowers to take home with recycled materials, investigated chick life cycles & “adopted” a chick, and created a pop-up bunny with the Briggs Library crew! In addition, we learned about college & careers with Ohio University staff, the Chesapeake Volunteer Fire Department, the Farm Bureau, & Sunni Brook Honey. Finally, we collaborated with Pratt’s Farm to see dog training in action & a local horse farm to practice brushing and caring for Stormy and Honey! Congratulations to the family of Paislee Blair for winning our Family Fun Basket! We appreciate all of the great feedback from students and families! 🤗💜

The After School Program starts on September 29th! We are excited about all of the awesome opportunities at the high school this year! Applications are on the bulletin board at the front doors! Can't wait to see you there!

This was a busy last week for the Peake High School learning program. We have learned so many things!

- Lisa Welton motivated us to give back to our community through volunteering. We packed around 60 food boxes in 2 hours at the Salvation Army.
-Guest speaker Sam Gue talked to us about not being afraid to fail and the importance of a strong handshake.
-Bruce Ray showed us around his hangar and gave us a tour of his plane. He helped us understand what it takes to become a pilot and introduced us to other careers in aviation.
- We ended the week with a trip to Dayton Air Force Museum. We walked through each hangar and were mesmerized by all of planes.
- Students received their certificates for the classroom portion of drivers Ed.

We are so thankful for all of the opportunities provided through the Peake Summer Learning program!

Thank you to all of our great parents for filling out surveys & for all of your kind words! We love this program & want it to be the best it can be for the kids. Yesterday, we passed out prizes to those of you who participated in our “Treasure Your Family” activity by doing lots of fun family activities together during Summer Peake. Family is so important! 🥰
