With more than 15 years of experience as an educator, Mrs. Springthorpe brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for learning to the Hawk family. Her teaching experience has taken her beyond the U.S., including teaching English in South Korea and Portugal! 🌎✈️

She holds a Master’s degree in Medieval Studies and is excited to begin this new chapter at HHS.

Outside of the classroom, Tamara is a proud mom to two boys, Bodie (4) and Eben (2). When she’s not teaching or chasing after her little ones, she loves traveling and backpacking! 🥾🏔️

WELCOME TO HHS, BRETT MATSCHKE! 🦅

Help us give a big Hawk welcome to Brett Matschke, our new Technology Support Specialist (TSS) at Hickory High School!

Brett has been supporting school divisions with technology since 2019. He spent several years working in James City County before joining Chesapeake Public Schools in 2025. Last year, he supported Crestwood Middle, Crestwood Elementary, and School Plants, so needless to say, he’s pretty excited to finally have one building to call home! 😄

Outside of school, Brett enjoys weightlifting, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, hiking, and surfing. 🏋️‍♂️🌊

We’re excited to have Brett officially join the Hawk family and can’t wait to see all he brings to HHS!

Welcome Rosalind S. Rosa to HHS! 🦅🩵

A proud North Carolina public school retiree, Mrs. Rosa is excited to begin a new chapter as a Special Education teacher at Hickory High School. She brings a wealth of experience, having served students throughout her career as both an Exceptional Children’s teacher and school administrator.

Mrs. Rosa earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Livingstone College, her Special Education teacher certification and Master’s in School Administration from Elizabeth City State University, and a Master’s in Special Education from Grand Canyon University.

When she’s not making a difference in the classroom, Rosalind enjoys traveling, serving her community through Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., spending time with her family, and simply enjoying life. ❤️

Her philosophy is simple but powerful: every student can succeed with the right support. We are thrilled to have her joining the Hawk family and look forward to all the ways she will inspire, encourage, and empower our students!

Welcome to HHS, Jennifer Morman! 🖤🩵

Jennifer earned her Master of Arts in Teaching in Special Education, with a focus on Adapted Curriculum, Career and Technical Education, Transition, and Special Needs from Liberty University. She brings eight years of experience with SECEP, where she worked with elementary-aged students, primarily supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other additional needs.

Outside of school, Jennifer enjoys reading, cooking, spending time with her family, camping, and cheering on mud truck and monster truck events! 🚚

Jennifer is also a proud mom to two children, Isabella (10) and Jason (7).

We are so excited to welcome Jennifer to the Hawk Family and can’t wait to see all the ways she will make a difference at HHS! 🩵🖤

Mrs. Evans has a passion for music and songwriting and loves staying active and spending time with her husband, son Finn, and their dog, Delilah. 🐾🎶

She is thrilled to take on this new role and can’t wait to get started with our Singing Hawks! We’re ready to hear those Hawk voices soar! 🎵🦅

Welcome to the Hawk Family, Christina DeMarco! 🖤🩵

We are excited to welcome Ms. Christina DeMarco to Hickory High School as she begins her 12th year as a special education teacher!

Christina spent the past 11 years at Camelot Elementary as a fourth- and fifth-grade inclusion teacher. While she loved her time at Camelot and will certainly miss her students, she always knew she wanted to work with high school students—and she is thrilled to finally make that dream a reality! Even better, Christina is a Hickory High School alumna, making her return to HHS a true full-circle moment. 🦅

Christina is a proud mom to Luke, who will be a fourth grader this year, and Hannah, who is starting first grade. Her family lives right here in the Hickory community, so she already knows and loves the community she is now proud to serve.

Outside of school, Christina enjoys reading, running, and spending time outdoors. Her family also recently welcomed a French Bulldog puppy, so it sounds like her summer is already keeping her busy! 🐾

We are so excited to have Christina back home at Hickory High and can’t wait to see the impact she will make on our students and school community.
