Congratulations to Trina Buchanan, Residential Technician - Kanvwotiyi, for being selected as the recipient of the Guiding Principle Four Award for 3rd quarter of 2025-2026.
The Guiding Principle Four award ᏗᏆᏤᎵᎢᏳᏍᏗ (di qua tse li i yu sdi) “Like Family to Me,” calls for demonstrating the pursuit to be the healthcare Provider of Choice and embody the ability to treat others (internally or externally) with compassionate care. Family means more than blood relation and means honoring those you serve with dignity and grace as if they are members of your own family. The employee selected for this quarter’s award will hold on to a 7.5-inch clear trophy, accented with green writing and a family tree engraving, and will receive a monetary award.
Trina is an outstanding example of someone who consistently goes above and beyond for both our residents and her coworkers. She is dependable, comes to work ready to contribute, and is always willing to step in wherever she is needed. She has volunteered to pick up extra shifts, assisted with coverage, and consistently taken the initiative to help ensure that our residents receive the support, attention, and positive experience they deserve.
What stands out most about Trina is the compassion and genuine care she shows toward the residents. She takes the time to recognize when a resident may be struggling and makes an effort to provide encouragement, support, and reassurance. Her approach goes beyond simply completing her assigned responsibilities—she builds meaningful relationships with residents and makes an intentional effort to help them feel valued, supported, and included. Trina also demonstrates this commitment through the additional effort she puts into activities and programming. She takes the initiative to plan activities, gather supplies, and find ways to encourage residents to participate in community and cultural events. She does not simply wait to be told what needs to be done; she sees an opportunity to make a difference and takes action.
Another quality that makes Trina deserving of this recognition is her willingness to learn and grow. She continues to learn more about Cherokee culture so that she can better understand, respect, and serve the people she works with. She asks questions when she needs clarification, works collaboratively with her team, and keeps the safety, well-being, and success of the residents at the forefront of her work. Trina consistently demonstrates dependability, compassion, teamwork, initiative, and a willingness to do more than what is simply expected of her. Her actions have a positive impact on the residents she serves, the coworkers she supports, and the overall environment of the team.
Overall, Trina represents the values and spirit of The Right Way & Guiding Principle Award "Like Family to Me." She leads through her actions, treats others with compassion and respect, and consistently looks for ways to make a positive difference. Based on her dedication, work ethic, and commitment to our residents and team, Trina is highly deserving of this award.
