In recognition of Fire Safety Week, our kindergarten students were treated to a special visit from the Cherokee Village Fire Department!

Students reviewed important fire safety tips and what to do in case of a fire. They also learned about the different equipment firefighters wear and how it helps keep them safe while responding to emergencies.

After the presentation, students headed outside for an up-close look at the fire department’s emergency vehicles and all of the equipment they carry!

A big THANK YOU to the Cherokee Village Fire Department for spending time with our students and helping our littlest Rebels learn more about fire safety!

🍂🎃 A HUGE thank-you to our 2026 CES Harvest Festival sponsors! 🎃🍂

Our Gold, Silver, and Bronze sponsors make this special day possible! Without their generosity, we would not be able to host our school’s Harvest Festival or provide a festival shirt for EVERY student.

Your support helps us create a day filled with fun, smiles, and lasting memories for our students. We are so grateful for each business, family, and individual who has contributed! ❤️

Please join us in thanking these sponsors and supporting the businesses that give back to our school! 🍁

Mrs. Lavanda’s second-grade students have been learning about gods and goddesses and recently read the story of Demeter and Persephone. In the story, Hades takes Persephone to the underworld to become his queen, where she eats six pomegranate seeds.
When Mrs. Lavanda discovered that many of her students had never tried pomegranate seeds before, she decided to bring their story to life! Students had the opportunity to taste pomegranate seeds for themselves, making a fun, hands-on connection to what they’ve been reading in class.

WE CAN’T HIDE OUR REBEL PRIDE!

Once again, Cherokee Elementary School has been recognized by the University of Arkansas Office for Education Policy (OEP) as a “Beating the Odds” school for demonstrating outstanding student growth on the 2025–2026 ATLAS assessments!
These awards recognize schools across Arkansas that demonstrate high student growth in Mathematics, English Language Arts (ELA), and Science while serving student populations in which at least 66% qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
🏆 Cherokee Elementary received FOUR awards!
🏆 High Overall Growth — Statewide
🏆 High ELA Growth — Statewide
🏆 High Math Growth — Northeast Region
🏆 High ELA Growth — Northeast Region
What makes these awards especially meaningful is the focus on student GROWTH! Every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, but not every child begins their educational journey with the same resources or opportunities. Some students face significant barriers outside the classroom, making the work our educators do each day even more important.
At Cherokee Elementary, our teachers and staff work tirelessly to meet students where they are, provide the support they need, and help them overcome obstacles to reach their full potential. These awards recognize more than test scores. They reflect the dedication, relationships, encouragement, and individualized support that help our students grow academically, regardless of the challenges they may face.
We are incredibly proud of our students, teachers, staff, and families for continuing to demonstrate what it means to BEAT THE ODDS!

Mrs. Rodola’s class finished their read-aloud, The BFG by Roald Dahl. To celebrate a wonderful book, they had a little themed celebration:

🥤 Frobscottle – It's like our soda, but the bubbles float downwards.

🍿 Whizzpopper Popcorn – This is the BFG's term for passing gas.

😴 Sweet Dreams – Good dreams caught by the BFG and given to children.

🫘 Human Beans – The giants' term for humans.

🥒 Snozzcumber – Looks similar to a cucumber, but tastes nasty. Unfortunately, the cucumber didn't make it to the table.

So much fun!

Our first grade students are wrapping up their unit on the human body, and they had some special guests from the Northcentral Arkansas Education Service Cooperative help bring their learning to life!

Mrs. Megan and Mrs. Macie presented a fun, hands-on lesson all about digestion and the organs of the human body. Mrs. Macie used the OrganWise Guys doll to help students identify different organs and learn more about the important jobs they do.

Mrs. Megan then took students on an interactive digestive system walk-through, demonstrating what happens to our food from the time we eat it as it travels through the digestive system.

What a fun way to wrap up their unit and turn what students have been learning in the classroom into an engaging, hands-on experience!
