This position works closely with the Director to manage the research farm and center facilities in a sustainable manner that supports current and future research. This is a full-time 1.00 FTE, 12-month, professional faculty position located in Madras, Oregon.

Don’t do it people. These poor shivering tomato starts outside an Oregon grocery store in March are not going to transplant well right now. You’re best to wait until the temps are higher and the plants can thrive. The only place you can put a tomato plant right now in Oregon is indoors in a window or a greenhouse. Remember: let soil temperature guide you when planting vegetables. Fifty degrees is a good benchmark for cool-season crops. For warm-weather plants like tomatoes, peppers and basil, the soil should be 60 degrees or more.

This position will support agricultural crop management throughout Central Oregon, with an emphasis on water efficient farming practices for cereal, forage and pasture production; healthy soil and water quality; greenhouse management; and integrated pest management.
