LINK CREW, LINK UP! For the class of 2030, Monday served as an Intro to High School, facilitated by members of the Cheney High School Link Crew. Donning their pink shirts, crew members led the group of freshmen through team building activities, a school tour, a freshmen-only assembly, and answered questions. Following the engaging morning, these new high schoolers received their CHS t-shirt, schedules, checked out their Chromebooks before grabbing lunch, feeling a little more prepared for the first day of school on Tuesday

Thank you Airway Heights Police Department for the great reminder as students and buses return on Tuesday!!

Tuesday marks the first day of school for Cheney Public Schools, and our children will once again be walking, biking, and riding through our neighborhoods. As a community, we have the privilege of welcoming them back with encouragement, pride, and a commitment to keeping them safe.

As you travel through Airway Heights, please remember to slow down in school zones, watch for crosswalks, and stay alert for students and families making their way to class. Your attention behind the wheel protects our kids, supports our schools, and strengthens the trust we work hard to build every day.

We are excited to see our children return to Sunset Elementary School and all Cheney Public Schools classrooms. Their energy, curiosity, and joy remind us why investing in their safety and success matters so deeply.

Thank you for doing your part to drive safely, support our families, and help ensure a strong start to the school year.

Together, we create a community where every child can learn, grow, and thrive. Together We Rise.

GATHERING COMMUNITY INPUT: Skyway Elementary was on hand during Airway Heights Days on August 22 to gather community input on a mascot for the new elementary school, set to open in the fall of 2027. Students, parents, and community members alike filled out a short survey to rank their preferences. Administrators from Sunset Elementary School, Westwood Middle School, and Cheney High School were also present, while CHS student-athletes and key club members volunteered their time. It was an awesome event!

SAT KICKOFF: The 2026-2027 Superintendent Student Advisory Team (SAT) came together for the first meeting of year on Aug. 20! These students learned more about the aim of the SAT and the impact of student voice on the district, while creating their own Code of Conduct and brainstorming different ideas they'd like to discuss throughout the year. It was great to get to know each of these new team members during the annual kickoff event!
