We're on our way home today! We had two great days on the Oregon coast - sharing meals, exploring and learning together. Special shout-out to Chris Bowen for his bus driving skills, keeping us safe on narrow roads along windy cliffs! It's been an unforgettable adventure, and we owe many thanks to The Oregon Extension for being such wonderful hosts!

Yesterday started like any other day, with Juan making pancakes for breakfast… but our regular lunch became a feast as we invited OE staff to join us in celebrating our last day on site. We presented Will with a thank you note on wood, with all of our fingerprints painted on it. Will said we really did leave our fingerprints all over this place, as we helped with wood, repairs, and gardening for more than two weeks! The day ended, as Fridays do, with our candlelit prayer service. The students walked out of the chapel in a tight little knot; they have bonded so much and so well. We are looking forward to today’s trip westward, to the redwoods and the coast!

I didn't do great on photos today. Here's what I would have pictured: morning pop-up coffee bar with Lindsay and Ethan started our day off right! Then, epic pruning; Enzo's gratin; lemon meringue pie; and firelit storytelling. We are savoring our last days here, since we leave early Saturday. Let me share these photos of flowers I've seen around OE in the last two weeks...!

Yesterday we had the most beautiful breakfast—Alaina’s idea—of avocado toast on Temple’s sourdough with all the toppings. Plus eggs in a nest made with everything bagels. Additionally, we learned to make pickles with Lindsey. Not pictured: Chap’s sauerkraut with brats, garden team cleaning out the chicken coop, an epic game of Monopoly, and the incessant, cold rain all day long...!

Today we celebrate our kitchen accomplishments! Alaina made many dozen haystack cookies! And teams of students made personal pizzas (homemade crust) for our core group plus four guests from OE staff! And yes, that was just lunch! We had biscuits and gravy for breakfast. We had pasta and meatloaf for dinner (special guest Dave Willis). These students are feeding each other well and learning so much in the process!

We sorted worm castings with Lindsey, and cuddled Terri’s baby goats. What a day for interaction with animals!

Yesterday we got our customary 4 carts of groceries (not pictured: sorting and labeling everything to put it away in the kitchen). Today we produced a lot: Scottish oat cakes for Lindsey, garlic knots that might be better than Mac and Bob’s, and most importantly, a special birthday meal for Jason: orange chicken and strawberry cake!

Friday was kitchen adventures: curry, homemade yogurt and ricotta, and pie! Saturday was Crater Lake national park: no filter on these photos so you can see the astonishing blue of the lake! We make discoveries every day. Saturday spirituality in the evening saw us watching dusk creep into the landscape while pondering the gifts of darkness. Such a rich experience for this group!
