Fate or Free Will?
One might say that there is plenty of evidence in support of the theory of fate, as well as free will. So, how do we come to our own personal understanding of what is true regarding these two theories of belief? Before going further, let’s state the question clearly; are we beings of “free will”, or subject to fate and the grand design that has been established for all to experience during life?
There are certain main events in each life that must come to pass. This is part of the plan and purpose of life. These events and changes are inevitable, and it is hopeless to fight against them. While these things, which constitute what we call fate, are inevitable and therefore cannot be avoided, it rests upon us, within ourselves, to meet these adversities and disasters.
Let’s be clear…
How can a plan be in place, yet human beings consider themselves free will beings? Is the contractor free to build any house that he wishes, completely disregarding the plan that was set before him? Of course not! Yet, no one monitors the contractor nor his workers moment by moment, attempting to limit or restrict his every decision. So, he has the freedom to accomplish the end desired and may make mistakes along the way, yet the end goal remains the same and the plans must be fulfilled.
Like the contractor, human beings have freedom, yet the promise to all will not change. What promise? “Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” John 10:16
Yet, despite the clarity of this promise, many believe that God made some for heaven and others for hell, based on their personal efforts and their choice of beliefs. However, many can accept that God has a plan, and many will acknowledge that He has the power to complete His plan, but again, do we have free will, or is it fate that binds us to His plan?
As with the contractor, human beings have freedom of expression that is God-given. But, with freedom can come consequences if one is operating outside of the plan. What plan? “Let us make man in our image and likeness.” That plan…
We see other human beings attempt to limit or restrict the expressions of others based on their own beliefs. They think they are honoring God by doing what they feel and believe is “the right thing, the godly thing!” But does God need help from His creation to accomplish His end objective? The claim that you are fighting for the birth of a fetus, for example, while restricting the rights of the woman to make mistakes and have successes, just like the contractor, seems naive or purposefully contrived to fit a narrative that sponsors an end objective of control over others. Without failures, how do we learn what is best? Why do Christians teach and preach a punitive God and ignore the greatest of all commandments to love God with all of one’s being, and his neighbor, in the same way, thus fulfilling all of the law and message of the prophets as the scripture declares? Yet, many pick what they will enforce, abandoning the greatest commandment that leads to the fulfillment of all principles of God’s commandments.
The answer to the question of fate or free will is that both are true, partially. Any plan that has been implemented suggests that there is an end objective that has been predetermined. For those that read the Bible (Christian and non-Christian alike), that believe it offers insight and guidance as to the purpose of life, these readers should know that the world was designed for the fulfillment of a plan. “In the world, you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!” To be told that yes, YOU WILL have trouble, BUT… makes it clear that there are things that can be done to overcome the tribulation. And herein lies the golden egg.
The “I” that has overcome the world is the creator Himself. Therefore, belief is important, but not the belief, however, that man preaches and teaches. If you believe in a God that died on a wooden cross, not realizing that the cross is your own flesh, and failing to realize that “Your body is the temple of the living God”, you are trapped in “the traditions of men” that have been created and deemed to be precepts and commandments of God, yet they are not. The Bible clearly tells the reader that their body is a temple of a living God. It also tells every reader, not just Christians, that “Your maker is your husband”. Christian leaders want to convince women that, according to the Bible, they must submit to their husbands. Well, yes, but your husband is your maker- Isaiah 54:5. If I make your husband your mate on earth, and not what Isaiah 54:5 is declaring, then I have created an entirely different experience to which women will submit, thinking they are doing God’s will. Slightly twisted, wouldn’t you say? But what is true?
Let's look at something else that has been “slightly twisted”. To accept a belief that Jesus (God) died on a wooden cross and ignore that the cross He inhabits is your body, is a matter of personal belief and stems from traditional teachings, but how is it “slightly twisted”?
Well, who or what is Jesus Christ? What does the Bible actually say about accepting Jesus Christ as one’s personal savior?
To accept Jesus-Christ is to acknowledge that Jesus is God, and “Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God” - 1 Corinthians 1:24. Jesus Christ is in you, as the apostle Paul declared as follows, “5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Can’t you see for yourselves that Jesus-Christ is in you— unless you actually fail the test?” 2 Corinthians 13:5
To fail the test is to believe in a God that is on the outside of you, and to see “Christ”, not as Paul stated in 1 Corinthians as “the power of God and the wisdom of God” in you, to help you overcome the world! No, to see Christ as a man that died on a wooden cross and not understand that this view is what man traditionally teaches, is to be trapped in tradition, honoring tradition over the power within. Do you see the difference?
The man that believes in Jesus Christ as a man that died on a wooden cross can say, “Jesus Christ is Lord, and be correct in his declaration, yet fail the test! The man that says, “Christ is Lord of all”, but is acknowledging that God’s power and God’s wisdom have been claimed by him to use to cushion the blows of life, thus overcoming the world, is a very different concept of God. Both claims sound the same but are totally different beliefs about the concept of God. So, what is your concept of God? Is He within, or without?
Remember, Jesus declared, “I and the Father are ONE”. This is what they wanted to stone Jesus for, right? He, according to the priesthoods of the time, made Himself equal to God.
So, yes… Man is fated to experience the tribulations of this world until he realizes that he has free will to believe that “I and the Father are one, yet He is greater than I”, just as Jesus declared. This freedom leads to the greatest form of flattery. What is that? Imitation! Therefore, men are told to “1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as beloved children, and walk in love”. Ephesians 5:1
When we repent from the error of false beliefs, change our concept of God, and begin to “Examine and test ourselves” to discover experientially, knowing firsthand that Jesus-Christ (God’s power and wisdom) is in us, this is the “truth” that leads to free will and sets us free to express God’s will in our lives. This is the free will that is available to all. Without truth, fate is your fortune until you experience so much tribulation that you too cry out, “Lord save me!”
So, the answer is, that every man is fated to be transformed as God has promised. And every man can resist this by denying who and what God really is. Every man can misuse the gift of God’s power and wisdom to kill, destroy, love, and do all that he wants to, suffering the consequences of all the evil actions that are undertaken. This means that God does not need men to hold other men accountable for their beliefs. No, the Bible says nothing about transgender. Nothing about gas or electricity either. It does tell us all to love, so picking something different more than likely, means you have an agenda of control where God allows freedom.
And do not make the mistake and think that you have one life for God to complete what He started. Your belief will not limit God’s plan. Consider re-defining lifetime to mean the time it takes to finish what God has started as promised. Whatever that means to God, does not require our permission.
Fate is the experience of all, by design, until the truth is embraced. It is in the moment that truth is embraced that free will becomes the gift that leads to expressing life freely and honoring God. Anything less must be questioned.
When the son sets a man free, that man is free indeed, and not until then! It is a wise man (man being both male and female) that seeks to set himself free from the tribulations of this world. And, one other thing of great importance...
The priesthood was attempting to trick Jesus and asked a question of Him. In the resurrection, whose wife shall the woman be? He first told them that they were in error in their understanding of the scripture. Then, He said something of great significance.
Luke 20:33-36 “And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: 35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage: 36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.”
Do you think your beliefs are the only things that God requires of a man to be “accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead”? Well, look at the politics of America and see what many are doing under the name of “Christianity”.
Don’t be fooled! God has a plan that far exceeds personal beliefs alone.
