Learning to Bloom: A Journey of Social-Emotional Growth

At the beginning of the school year, one of our students often struggled with frustration, emotional outbursts, and peer conflict during afterschool programming. Small disagreements would quickly become overwhelming, making it difficult for the student to fully participate in activities and build positive relationships with others.

Throughout the year, our staff worked closely with the student to encourage healthy coping skills, emotional awareness, and positive communication. Through consistent support, social-emotional learning activities, and caring relationships with staff, the student began learning how to pause, express feelings appropriately, and work through conflict in healthier ways.

Over time, we saw tremendous growth. The student now participates more positively in group activities, shows improved self-control during challenging moments, and has built stronger friendships with peers. Staff have noticed increased confidence, better teamwork, and a willingness to ask for help when needed.

This growth is a reminder that with patience, encouragement, and supportive relationships, students can develop the tools they need to succeed both socially and emotionally.

The American Heart Association generously donated 25 crockpots and recipe guides to our food pantry, ensuring that our neighbors have a way to prepare nutritious meals at home! We're grateful to be working alongside them at the intersection of food access and long term health

Volunteer week 2026 was a success! We had a huge turnout of amazing volunteers and we are so grateful for their dedication and hard work.
