Looking for Real Karate in Chattanooga?
For more than 23 years, Green’s Karate has worked to help the public understand an important distinction. Not every martial arts school that uses the word karate actually teaches Japanese karate.
Many schools teach Taekwondo, Hapkido, Kenpo, Kung Fu, mixed martial arts, or combinations of several systems. Those arts may have value, but they are not the same as traditional Japanese karate. Unfortunately, karate is often used as a blanket marketing term for almost any martial arts program, and that has created a great deal of confusion.
At Green’s Karate, karate is not simply a word used in our advertising. It is what we teach.
We are a full time Chattanooga dojo devoted to traditional Sh*to Ryu karate, a recognized Japanese karate system. Our students study karate as a complete martial discipline, not simply as exercise, sport, entertainment, or an after school activity.
Karate should not be separated from self defense. Traditional karate was developed for serious personal protection and has been tested under harsh, real world conditions throughout its history. Its techniques, principles, body mechanics, awareness, discipline, and mental training were not created only for trophies or demonstrations. Authentic karate is, at its foundation, a method of self protection.
That does not mean our training is reckless or violent. Quite the opposite. We train responsibly, progressively, and with control. But we do not pretend that karate and self defense are two unrelated subjects. Self defense is built into genuine karate.
Green’s Karate founder and instructor, Corey Green, is a mixed martial artist who chose karate as his primary system. After studying, practicing, and comparing different martial arts, he personally found that traditional karate offered the greatest number of strengths with the fewest weaknesses.
That decision was not based on loyalty to a label. It was based on years of training, research, comparison, teaching, and practical experience.
Traditional karate provides striking, movement, timing, distance control, balance, discipline, awareness, conditioning, and practical self defense within one complete martial system. It can also be strengthened through knowledge of other arts without losing its identity as karate.
When someone says that you should go somewhere else for self defense but come to them for karate, they may be describing a recreational program that uses karate as a label, not the complete traditional art.
If you are searching for traditional karate in Chattanooga, Japanese karate instruction, Sh*to Ryu karate, practical karate, self defense training, or a full time karate dojo, you have found it.
At Green’s Karate, we do not use karate as a generic marketing term. We preserve it, practice it, and teach it for what it truly is.
