Yesterday, I had the incredible opportunity to speak to Murray County Schools’ newest teachers at New Teacher Orientation!
My message was simple: “Whose horn are you tooting?” 📯
As educators (and humans), we have the opportunity to build people up every single day - to toot the horns of our students, their families, our coworkers, and yes, even ourselves! I talked about the importance of genuinely encouraging others, taking the time to know their names and their stories, communicating with families, and remembering that every person brings a different “instrument” to our school community.
Just like an orchestra, we don’t all sound the same - and that’s exactly what makes the music beautiful. When we each play our part and toot one another’s horns, together we make a musical masterpiece. ❤️🎵
I’m so thankful to Murray County Schools for trusting me with this opportunity and allowing me to share a little bit of my heart, my love for music, and my love for education with the newest members of our school family.
And, I couldn’t let them leave without their very own plastic French horn! My hope is that they’ll put it somewhere they’ll see it often and ask themselves throughout this school year:
“Whose horn am I tooting?”
What an honor. What a privilege. What a wonderful morning! ❤️
