Matt Calvert Named Principal of Lawrence County High School

LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. — Lawrence County Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Matt Calvert as the new principal of Lawrence County High School. A highly respected educator and leader, Calvert brings 28 years of experience in public education and a lifelong commitment to serving students, teachers, families, and the Lawrence County community.

Throughout his distinguished career, Calvert has remained focused on a simple but powerful mission: making a positive difference in the lives of students while fostering strong relationships and supporting educational excellence. His extensive experience as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and administrator has prepared him to lead Lawrence County High School into its next chapter of success.

A graduate of the University of North Alabama, Calvert earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1998 and began his educational career at Cornersville High School. During his tenure there, he taught mathematics, physical education, and special education while coaching both high school and middle school basketball and golf. His dedication to student achievement and instructional excellence earned him recognition as Teacher of the Year in 2001.

Committed to continuous professional growth, Calvert earned a Master of Education degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 2003. In 2005, he returned to his hometown of Lawrence County to serve at New Prospect Elementary School as Director of Athletics, physical education teacher, and head coach of the basketball and baseball programs.

In 2008, Calvert was selected to serve on the Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association (TMSAA) Committee Council for Middle Tennessee, where he has helped strengthen and support middle school athletics across the region. He further advanced his leadership credentials by earning an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Administration from Middle Tennessee State University in 2009.

Calvert began his administrative career in 2012 when he was selected as one of the first Deans of Students at Lawrence County High School. He later served as Assistant Principal and Director of Athletics at Leoma Elementary School before returning to Lawrence County High School in 2014 as Assistant Principal and Director of Athletics, a position he has held with distinction for more than a decade.

Throughout nearly three decades in education, Calvert has built a reputation for integrity, servant leadership, collaboration, and a steadfast commitment to student success. His leadership philosophy centers on building meaningful relationships, fostering positive school culture, and creating opportunities for students and educators to thrive.

“Matt Calvert is a proven leader who understands the importance of relationships, academic excellence, and community engagement,” said Lawrence County Director of Schools Michael Adkins. “His experience, character, and commitment to students make him exceptionally well qualified to lead Lawrence County High School. We are excited about the future of LCHS under his leadership.”

Calvert expressed gratitude for the opportunity and reflected on the many individuals who have influenced his career.

“I have been blessed to work with the best students, teachers, educational leaders, and people who have mentored me and helped me throughout this journey,” Calvert said. “I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to continue serving.”

Calvert also expressed appreciation for the unwavering support of his family throughout his career. He and his wife, Misty, have been married for 31 years. They are proud parents of two sons, Logan, who is married to Lauren, and Riley, who is married to Maria.

As principal, Calvert looks forward to continuing the tradition of excellence at Lawrence County High School while focusing on student achievement, strong school-community partnerships, and creating opportunities that help every student reach their full potential.

And finally Mr. Willie Joiner was our principal. These educators are loved, appreciated, and will be missed! 💜💛
