When Dolly Parton passed away last week, we knew she belonged in morning chapel. Our students entered to “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” and before chapel was over, Dolly had joined the saints.

For Chaplain Kara Miscio, the morning became a reflection on something much bigger: the roots that shape us, the dignity we see in one another, and what it means to be an Episcopal school.

Read Kara’s reflection at the link in our comments. ❤️

Three weeks into the new school year, there’s a whole lot of being a kid going on around here. ❤️ A little bit of life lately at St. Nicholas.

The Happy Cart is back, with snacks, drinks, and a little Friday boost for the people who make St. Nicholas School go! 😎

A HUGE thanks to our Parent Association Social Chairs Julie Wright and Shawn Strever for making the rounds last week. Good news: the Happy Cart will be rolling again on the last Friday of every month this school year.

Sometimes, happiness has wheels.

A Tennessee legend. She showed our children what generosity, creativity, and love for others can look like, and put millions of books in their hands along the way. We’re grateful for you, Dolly.

BREAKING: Dolly Parton has died at 80 years old, her family shared on social media Tuesday.

Something stopped Level 2 in their tracks on the first full day of school. 🍄

Outside chapel, the kids spotted a unique mushroom that appeared to be moving. Naturally, they had to investigate.

No one planned that lesson, but some pretty great learning was already happening. The kids noticed something they didn’t understand and wanted to know more.

That spirit showed up all over St. Nicholas during our first week back. A katydid crashed first-grade math, and something our Upper Primary students heard in chapel resurfaced later in a STEM lesson. Around here, learning has a funny way of going somewhere unexpected. Sometimes, the unexpected part is worth following.

Say hello to some of the newest people at St. Nicholas School! 👋

A new school year brings new people into the life of our campus, and we’re pretty excited about this crew.

They’ve already jumped into classrooms, gotten to know our students, and discovered that a day at St. Nicholas has a way of taking you places you didn’t expect.

We’re glad they’re here. Give them a wave when you see them around campus!! 🌊

A little glimpse of our first chapel of the school year Wednesday morning!

There’s something about gathering together in chapel and then enjoying the outside air that makes a school morning feel very St. Nicholas. ☀️

We asked some of our students a question on the first full day of school: What are you looking forward to this school year?

The answers? Being a role model for the younger kids, seeing friends again, Beach Day, field trips, and digging for treasure and worms, of course. 🪱

The first day of school goes quickly. Childhood does, too. ❤️

A new school year comes with so much anticipation for what’s ahead, but these first few days have also reminded us to pay attention to who our kids are right now.

Some families are walking through our doors for the very first time. Others are beginning one last year of elementary school. Before the year picks up speed, we’re taking a minute to appreciate the beginning.

We wrote about what we noticed as our kids came back together this week, from the way they welcomed new classmates to the first routines taking shape in their classrooms.

A new school year is a big moment. We’re celebrating our kids, our families, and another year of childhood at St. Nicholas School.
