ChattState showed up BIG for the Special Olympics Area Flag Football Tournament at the Hixson Youth Athletic Association this morning!

It was wonderful to see so many parts of our ChattState community come together to support our Special Olympics athletes. The Symphonic Band brought the music and energy. Intramurals helped lead our skills events. An EMT instructor and several of her students served as our medical team. Three Tiger Access students took the field to play flag football, while another performed with the band!

This is what community looks like…students, faculty, and programs coming together, sharing their talents, and creating opportunities for everyone to belong, participate, and shine.

Orientation Week for our new Tiger Access cohort was a success!

This week, our students took their first steps toward becoming confident college students. They learned what it means to be a college student, navigated campus while discovering important resources, practiced email etiquette, learned how to ask for help and schedule appointments with instructors, explored self-advocacy skills, developed strategies for staying organized, learned to use TigerWeb, and discovered ways to get involved in our campus community.

They also completed a Tech Goes Home training, which means every student now has a device to support their schoolwork and success throughout the program.

We’re so proud of everything they accomplished this week and can’t wait to watch them continue to grow throughout the semester. Here’s to a great start and an exciting journey ahead!

Mikaela began studying for the ParaPro Praxis in July 2025 while she was still a student in the Tiger Access Program. She graduated in May 2026 but didn’t stop there. She returned throughout the summer, attending tutoring sessions 2 times a week as she continued to prepare for the exam.

Today, she received her official scores, and she passed the ParaPro Praxis!

Mikaela, your determination, perseverance, and commitment to your goals are commendable. We are so proud of all you’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see what comes next. Congratulations on this well-deserved achievement!

Our July Summer of Learning day went great! Our Tiger Access students spent the day building independence through real-world experiences in the Chattanooga community. The group rode CARTA to City Cafe for lunch, walked to enjoy boba tea, and visited the Downtown Library to explore the many resources available to college students and community members. They then navigated the downtown shuttle to connect with a CARTA route back to campus.
