The Abshire Fellowship Program offers a select group of Baylor seniors a unique opportunity to explore leadership, public service, and civic engagement in our nation’s capital!

Last week, these students spent five days in Washington, D.C., meeting with Baylor alumni and leaders across government, healthcare, business, national security, and public policy. From visits to CSIS, the Pentagon, Walter Reed, Capitol Hill, and the FDIC to conversations with professionals shaping decisions on a national and global scale, Fellows gained firsthand insight into leadership in action.

Created in honor of Dr. David Abshire ’44, the program challenges students to think critically about service, responsibility, and the impact they can have on the world around them!

A huge shoutout to our wonderful alums that spoke with our fellows and made this trip a huge success:

Congratulations to Baylor’s Kenneth Parks on his retirement after 41 years of teaching French and Spanish, inspiring students to explore the world beyond the classroom, and sharing his love of language, culture, and music!

When reflecting on his career, Kenneth said, “I hope they remember me as a teacher who was fair and a man who was decent. That I was a good person.”

Thank you, Mr. Parks, for four decades of dedication, mentorship, and service to Baylor. We wish you all the best in retirement!

During the final moments before graduation, our seniors and faculty and staff perform the “exchange of gratitude”. One last way to say thank you to everything they have learned from each other. What a special ending to such a wonderful journey!
