A Weekly Message From Ms. Maston-

Dear OKE Families,
I hope you are enjoying your weekend! As we continue working together to provide a safe, healthy, and successful school experience for every Lion, we have two important asks for our families, along with an exciting community event coming up.

⭐️Help Us Keep the Air Safe for Everyone
We are asking families to please not allow students to bring perfume, cologne, body sprays, or scented hand sanitizer to school. Strong fragrances can trigger asthma symptoms and other sensitivities for some of our students and staff. Thank you for helping us maintain a healthy and comfortable environment for everyone.

⭐️Help Us Protect the Full School Day
We have noticed an increase in students being dismissed early from school. We certainly understand that appointments, emergencies, and other circumstances sometimes require an early dismissal. However, whenever possible, we ask that you allow your child to remain at school for the entire school day.
Every part of the instructional day matters. When students leave early, they may miss important instruction, intervention, small-group learning, or other valuable learning opportunities. Every minute counts, and we appreciate your help in protecting our students' learning time.

⭐️Monthly Community Event – September 5 | 12:00–2:30 p.m.
We are excited that our monthly community events are returning! Join us at Orchard K**b Elementary on September 5 from 12:00–2:30 p.m. in partnership with For the Culture and Grace Point.
Families can enjoy free haircuts, hairstyles, food, giveaways, and more! These events are about more than providing resources—they are another opportunity for us to come together, connect, and strengthen our OKE community. We hope to see you there!

Hey Lions! Here is a message from our principal, Ms. Maston, and a few reminders for this week:

- Thank you for coming out to Open House! Your support made the evening a huge success, and we enjoyed connecting with each of you.

-House Sorting Day was also a success! All of our new students have officially been welcomed into one of our four Houses. Our next House Day will be September 11—four Houses, one pride!

-Fourth- and fifth-grade families, your child received an application to become an OKE Leader or Ambassador. We are looking for student leaders who consistently demonstrate our ROAR expectations:
Respectful: Treat others with kindness.
On Task: Stay focused and give your best effort.
Accountable: Take ownership of your choices and actions.
Responsible: Follow expectations and make good decisions.

-As a reminder, students will return to uniform on Monday. Please help us ensure that your child arrives dressed appropriately. Students may wear any solid-colored polo or button-down shirt with khaki, navy blue, gray, or black bottoms. School uniform jumpers are also permitted.

Tomorrow is a very special day OKE Family. IT’S SORTING DAY!! Each of our new to OKE students and Kindergarten friends will find out which house they belong in 🐾

Our house system is such a fun thing for our students and staff. We have competitions throughout the year, celebrations, and themed days when we come together with our house families. The house system helps build a sense of belonging and camaraderie amongst every grade level. Everyone earns points for showing our ROAR expectations, and at the end of the year there is a grand champion!

All returning OKE students can wear their house colored shirts tomorrow (uniform pants are required). Accessorize yourself with you colors too. Think hairbows, socks, shoes, etc. we can’t wait to welcome our new members home!
