Sophomore Arts student Nina had her book signing downtown at Pennington's Books on Monday evening, and many of her SBA friends and teachers came to support her. Her play was chosen to be published by Walnut Street Publishing as the Jewel Award winner for best original play this year. As part of that process, Nina was able to meet with a professional editor, choose cover art, and have a book signing. Several scenes from the play were performed as a staged reading and Nina shared briefly about her inspiration for writing the short play. Ellie Austen, the Education Director for the Tivoli Theatre β€’ Walker Theatre β€’ Memorial Auditorium, was there to facilitate the evening. What a special honor for Nina and for the Arts department at Silverdale!

We had a large and enthusiastic group who attended the Jewel Awards on Friday night. For the first time, Silverdale won not just a single award, but FOUR of them. Congratulations to Director Jared Eddy, Music Director Michaela Kyttle, and the entire cast and crew for earning these recognitions...

Senior Showcase is always a highlight of the year, a bittersweet night where our senior arts students give their final performances as Silverdale students. Senior arts students sang solos and duets, played musical instruments, read original poems, displayed artwork, and performed scenes from a One Act play.

The night opened with a remarkable trio of jazz pieces performed by a jazz quartet and a live painting done by senior art student Gracie, and the night closed with a powerful group performance of "You Will Be Found" from the musical Dear Evan Hansen.

The smaller, closer atmosphere of the Black Box theater makes for a more intimate performance, with less physical and emotional distance between actors and audience. The audience was in tears one moment and belly laughing the next. It was truly a remarkable night, and we will miss these faces so much, even as we are excited to see what they will do as they graduate later this week.

Congratulations once again to Mr. Jared Eddy, Mrs. Michaela Kyttle, and the entire cast and crew of The Hello Girls for their TWELVE Jewell Award nominations! The awards are being held this coming Saturday night at Memorial Auditorium, and many of our students are taking advantage of the workshops being offered that day as well.

At the Spring Dance Showcase on Thursday night, middle school and high school dancers from His Company performed beautiful dances! There were solos, duets, trios, and full group dances. At the end of the evening, there was a video tribute for Mrs. Connie Regal, the founding artistic director of His Company, retiring from her position at the end of this year, which included praise from her coworkers as well as from alumnae dancers who expressed their love for Mrs. Regal and thanks for her influence in their lives. The creative choreography and artistic growth in these young performers are evidences of Mrs. Regal's heart and passion not only for dance, but for her dancers. We are so thankful for her godly influence, servant heart, and visionary leadership over His Company!

Thanks to everyone who came out to see the Spring Concert, Joyful Noise! The choir under the direction of Mrs. Michaela Kyttle, has never sounded better, and the various instrumental groups played flawlessly! Director of the Arts Alex Denton directed the beginning band and Mr. Stephen Humphries directed the percussion ensemble, jazz band, high school concert band, intermediate band, and combined bands. This year there are quite a few talented seniors in both band and choir, and they were honored at the end of the program.
