Task of the day - lesson prep for knife class in Buena Park and studies into Tatay Pascual’s twelve strikes, taught to him by Felicisimo Dizon. I continue to look back on these videos from when I was in the Philippines. Research and application are essential parts of Arnis Laban Laro, my integration of the different martial arts I have learned.

SDFMA Foam Sword Ruleset Match: this was an interesting game in which both men were able to follow each others moves in an equal measure. While it would seem speed and commitment determined the match, the few points I noted show a different game. Proper distance management played a better role in those exchanges and ensured that follow ups were less likely - hit and don’t get hit everyone.

Yesterday there was a small town competition for knife, sparring that three of my students at the Lightspeed Saber Academy participated. A focus of my teachings there have been on Cinco Teros and I am proud to say that two of my students CUT through the competitors to make first and second! We will be improving their skills even more in the coming weeks on our 6pm, Wednesday classes - drop by and learn with us!

Foam stick sparring competition clips from the SDFMA Open: timing and follow through were great skills in this match and I enjoyed seeing how simple techniques make a big difference
