What does your child take with them when they leave our studio? ❤️🩰

At DSLA, we believe the impact we make goes far beyond what happens during class. It’s about creating an environment where every dancer feels seen, supported, and encouraged to grow.

✨ A place where they are truly seen
Our smaller class sizes give dancers the individualized attention they need and deserve.

🤍 Teachers who meet them where they are
Our teachers take the time to get to know each dancer, support them where they are in their journey, and help them keep moving forward.

🎨 Space to think, create, and be themselves
Dancers have the opportunity to explore their creativity & express their individuality.

🩰 Safe practices that support healthy growth
We prioritize strong technique, proper training, and practices that support the health and well-being of every dancer.

🤝 A community they can grow with
DSLA is a place where dancers build meaningful friendships and relationships that go far beyond the studio.

These are the things our dancers bring with them when they leave our studio. The confidence to be themselves, the friendships they’ve made, and the experiences and lessons they’ve gained along the way. ❤️

How can you help your dancer practice at home? 🩰✨

Dance class is where dancers learn new skills, but practicing between classes gives them a chance to repeat those skills, build muscle memory, and grow their confidence!

Here are 3 easy ways to keep dance going at home:

1. Keep a dance journal 📝🩰
Encourage your dancer to write down corrections, new steps, or things they want to remember from class. When they practice at home, they can look back at their notes and focus on those specific corrections.

2. Build strength at home 💪
Simple exercises like pliés, relevés, balances, or other exercises your dancer already knows from class can help build the strength they need for dance. Even a few minutes can make a difference!

3. Practice in small chunks ⏰
Practice doesn’t have to mean spending an hour dancing at home! Even 5–10 focused minutes can be helpful. A little practice throughout the week can help those skills start to feel more natural.

✨ Practice at home doesn’t have to mean spending hours dancing. Finding little opportunities throughout the week can make a big difference in a dancer’s progress!

Congratulations to our Student of the Month, Erin!

We love seeing her passion for ballet continue to grow and the positive energy she brings to the studio!

Erin loves ballet because "it looks so elegant and graceful, yet it takes so much physical strength and hard work to get to the point of making it look so easy". She also loves how dance helps her be present and clear her mind: "Dancing makes my mind so calm and stress free!"

Dance has also given Erin new goals to work toward, classes to look forward to, and friendships that she's grateful for.

We love her reminder to "never be scared to try new things, because you never know what could change your life and make you even happier"! Congratulations! ✨

🐇✨ The secret stayed safe in Wonderland! 👀❤️

You had some great guesses, but no one uncovered it this time! Don’t worry, you’ll get another chance to put your guessing skills to the test when we reveal our Spring Recital theme in a few months! 😉
For now, we’re heading down the rabbit hole…

🎩🫖 The theme is… ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND! 🐰❤️

And what are our dancers most excited about for recital? 👀🩰

Take a little sneak peek into our Dance Company rehearsals and hear it straight from our dancers!

From performing on stage to dancing with their friends, there’s already so much excitement building as we get closer to recital. 🥹✨

We asked our dancers what they’re looking forward to most, and their answers are too sweet not to share!

We can’t wait for this adventure! 🐇✨

Need a little dose of joy today? ❤️

We just had to do this trend with our Mini Team, and they were way too cute not to share! 🩰✨

We love seeing our dancers have fun, be silly, and make memories together during rehearsals. 🫶

Warning: you may want to watch this one more than once. 😂❤️

How do we teach our youngest dancers to jump safely and correctly? 🩰

Jumping is one of those skills that little dancers LOVE, but there’s actually a lot to think about! We start with a few simple things that help dancers build good habits from the very beginning:

1. Land toe, ball, heel
🦶 We want dancers to roll through their feet when they land—toe, ball, heel—rather than coming down with a hard stomp.

2. Bend your knees when you land
💎 When dancers land, their knees should bend to help absorb the landing. A fun visual for little ones? We want to see a little diamond shape between their legs!

3. Start with props and make it fun!
🧣 Props can make practicing feel more like a game! Having dancers jump up to catch a scarf gives them something fun to focus on while encouraging them to jump up instead of forward.

4. Keep the body straight
✨ Keeping their back lifted and their body strong helps them stay balanced and in control.

5. Practice + warm up!
🤍 Strong jumps take time. Making sure dancers are properly warmed up and then practicing these basics again and again helps them build confidence and strength.

The goal isn't to make little dancers perfect before they are ready—it’s to help them build good habits early while keeping dance fun! 🫶

Ever wonder where Jazz Funk came from? ✨

Jazz Funk is a high-energy dance style that blends the technique of jazz with the groove, musicality, and attitude of hip hop.

🎶 The style gained popularity in the ‘80s and ‘90s through music videos, concerts, and live performances, becoming a signature style for many of the world’s biggest artists. Today, it’s known for its sharp movements, expressive choreography, and confidence-filled performance.

🔥 Our dancers learned a fun combination while building coordination, performance quality, and confidence—all while having a great time together!

💃 Whether you’re getting back into dance or trying something completely new, Adult Jazz Funk is a fun way to move, challenge yourself, and express your personality!

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to audition for a dance production? ✨

Our Dance Company dancers recently took on their Winter Recital auditions, and we are so proud of the confidence, preparation, and dedication they brought into the room.

Auditioning is about so much more than receiving a role. It gives dancers the opportunity to challenge themselves, step outside of their comfort zone, build confidence, and experience what it takes to prepare for a full production.

And now that auditions are complete, the countdown to our Winter Recital officially begins! ❄️🎭

Think you can figure out what’s coming to the stage this winter? Stay tuned! 👀

Are you training the muscles that support you from the inside out? 👀💪

Dance isn't just about big movements and visible strength. Some of the most important work happens with the smaller, intrinsic muscles that help stabilize and support your body through every movement.

💪 In Conditioning for Dancers, we target those often-overlooked muscles to build strength, stability, balance, and control that directly support your dance technique.

🧘♀️ But strength is only part of the picture! We also work on flexibility and mobility to help dancers move through a greater range of motion with control, intention, and proper support.

🩰 Together, strength and flexibility can help you improve everything from extensions, turns, jumps, and balance to your overall body control and movement quality.

✨ And the benefits don't stop when you leave the studio. Developing strength, flexibility, stability, and body awareness can help you move more confidently and efficiently in your everyday life, too.
