Tennis Tip

Keep the back elbow up to create space on the backswing.

Lifting the back elbow helps keep the racquet the proper distance from your body, giving you more room to accelerate through the ball.

Try this small change and see what happens.

Tennis Tip: Stay over the center of the court.

You don’t have to take huge risks to control the point.

Watch how the player stays over the center while still being aggressive — hitting hard through the middle, going inside-in or inside-out when the opportunity is there.

Stay over the low part of the net. Control the center. Wait for the court to open up.

You can control the point without going for the lines.

Tennis Tip: Be patient before you take the risk.

Stay crosscourt for the extra ball. You’re hitting over the low part of the net, with more court to work with.

Don’t change direction just because you can. Wait until the opportunity is obvious.

Going down the line should be like shooting fish in a barrel — except the water should be drained and the fish should be lined up.

It should be THAT obvious before you take the risk.

Tennis Tip: Quick step back after the serve or you’ll get caught.

After you serve, don’t stand there and watch it. Recover quickly back to the baseline and get ready for the return. That extra second of staring will put you behind in the point immediately.

Like this.

Tennis Tip: Create space and you’ll create the opportunity. 🎾

You don’t have to take huge risks to open up the court. Use high-margin shots to create just a little space, then take advantage of the opening. Create the space. Create the opportunity. Win the point.

Tennis Tip: Recover to Neutral

After you’re pulled off the baseline, recover quickly and toe the baseline. Staying neutral lets you take advantage of the next opportunity.

Think of it like speed: get yourself from 75 mph back down to 45 mph. Regain control, get balanced, and be ready to attack the next ball.

Tennis Tip: Quick Prep After the Serve

Don’t serve and watch. That extra second can put you behind for the entire point.

As soon as you finish the serve, recover quickly, get back on your toes, and prepare for the return. Serve → recover → ready. Stay ahead of the point instead of reacting late.

Tennis Tip: Attack the odd weak ball.

Not every weak ball is easy to attack. Sometimes it’s off-speed, low, or has slice—and that can make being aggressive uncomfortable.

Feed different types of weak balls and practice recognizing them, moving forward, and creating offense.

Don’t just practice attacking perfect balls. Learn to attack the weird ones.

This is tennis.

Tennis Tip: Reverse the Pattern

Patterns get established in tennis. Crosscourt, crosscourt, crosscourt.

When your opponent changes direction and goes down the line, reverse the pattern and go right back down the line.

They naturally recover toward the middle to cover the crosscourt—so going back behind them gets them off balance.

This is tennis.

Tennis Tip: Create Enough Space

On a short ball, create enough space to choose inside-in or inside-out. Don’t crowd the ball. Good spacing gives you options and lets you dictate where the ball goes.

This is tennis.
