During last week’s School Board meeting, our high school students were recognized for their outstanding achievements and contributions. Each student received a certificate of recognition honoring their hard work, dedication, and success.

Our School Board members were also recognized for their accomplishments through the 2026 VSBA School Board Academy Awards.

In addition, board members proudly recognized the following individuals for the 2026 VSBA Media Honor Roll for their contributions to public education:

• Mr. Charles Wilborn, reporter for the Danville Register & Bee
• Ms. Shannon Kelly, reporter for the Chatham Star-Tribune

Lastly, Division Superintendent Dr. Steven Mayhew was recognized for his nomination and selection to be featured in the Virginia School Boards Association’s Products of Public Education special publication. This publication celebrates exceptional students and graduates of Virginia’s public schools who exemplify the lasting impact of public education.

Dr. Mayhew’s recognition highlights his lifelong connection to Pittsylvania County Schools, where he began as a student and went on to serve as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, and now division superintendent. His journey reflects the lasting impact of public education and a career dedicated to serving our schools and community.
