The Hundred Board helps children build a deep understanding of numbers 1–100 through hands-on exploration. Children place numbered tiles in sequence, discovering patterns as they work.

✨ What children are learning:
• Number recognition and sequencing
• One-to-one correspondence
• Counting forward and backward
• Skip counting and number patterns
• Concentration, independence, and problem-solving

As children complete the board, they often notice patterns on their own—rows of tens, repeating endings, and how numbers grow in an organized way. This discovery builds confidence and a true sense of how numbers work, not just memorization.

A powerful skill in a Montessori classroom is discernment. Effective guides understand that careful observation comes first, and any redirection should support—not disrupt—a child’s work.

✨ Thoughtful ways to redirect:

🔹 Let the environment do the teaching
Rather than correcting verbally, make small adjustments to the materials, introduce a nearby activity, or offer a calm, silent invitation.

🔹 Communicate without words
A gentle movement, a shift in proximity, or a quiet gesture can often refocus a child more effectively than spoken directions.

🔹 Honor deep focus
When a child is engaged, safe, and exploring with purpose—even imperfectly—allow the moment to unfold. Concentration is valuable work.

🔹 Support independence with respect
When guidance is necessary, keep it simple and kind, trusting the child’s ability to self-correct and grow.
