Congratulations to the thirteen graduates of the PVCC Higher Education in Prison program who earned their associate degrees at Buckingham, Dillwyn and Fluvanna correctional centers.
Some of the graduates were recognized during a May 21 commencement ceremony at Dillwyn Correctional Center. President Runyon, PVCC leadership, faculty and staff joined together to celebrate their accomplishments.
Guest speaker, founder of the Second Chancer Foundation and author Jesse Crosson, challenged the Class of 2026 to keep moving forward. "I hope you will continue your education," he shared. "It will open doors you can never imagine. If you continue to make that decision to show up, to invest in yourself, to believe in yourself, even when it doesn't seem like it's possible to do it, even when people or the voice in your head tell you not to, you will be amazed at where you land."
Criminal justice reform advocate Kenneth Hunter provided closing remarks, "college doesn't just give you information, it gives you perspective, and maybe most importantly it gives you a renewed sense of possibility."
The ceremony recording is available on the Virginia Department of Corrections YouTube account.
