Grading Changes Proposed for ACPS It's summer, but this will be decided next week... so, here's our summary.

Important: Proposed New ACPS Policy --
Professional Boundaries and Prevention of Sexual Misconduct and Abuse

Will be presented at Thurs July 9 school board meeting. From agenda item:

"Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) is dedicated to ensuring every student has a safe and supportive environment to learn and grow. To protect our students from misconduct and abuse, the proposed policy is grounded in peer-reviewed research and built using the latest nationwide studies on student safety and abuse prevention. It is also proven in practice, modeled after the most comprehensive safety policies from school districts throughout Virginia and across the United States."

Includes:
- Inappropriate Boundary Violations
- In-Person Contact and Communication
- Limits on One-On-One Interactions
- Adults Supervising Student Employees
- Electronic Communication
- Commitment to Healthy Relationships
- Reiteration of Existing Policies, including Reporting & Investigation
- Consequences as per State Law
- ACPS Responsibilities for Communication & Training

There will be an official "Public Hearing" at next week's school board meeting on July 16.

The Albemarle County School Board has appointed Dr. Chandra Hayes as Acting Superintendent of Albemarle County Public Schools, effective immediately.

Dr. Hayes will serve as Acting Superintendent during the 2026-27 school year while the School Board conducts a search for the division’s next permanent superintendent.

The Board selected Dr. Hayes to provide steady leadership and support for our students, staff, families and schools during this important time for our division.
