The last week and a half of professional development has been filled with learning, reflection, collaboration, and, of course, wonder.

Our faculty explored what it means to be educators at CDS from so many different perspectives. Ms. Brown invited Aristotle and Mary Oliver to the table as we explored wonder through food, philosophy, stories, and conversation. Ms. Moore and Ms. Mira guided us in thinking about how we cultivate wonder in children. Ms. Jennie explored wonder through math, while Ms. Reed and Ms. Hawkins brought it back to the classroom through collaboration and noticing our students.

Ms. Kira shared our literacy framework and beliefs at CDS, while Ms. Rocky helped us think more deeply about social-emotional learning and supporting the whole child. Dave and Stacey invited us to reflect on our philosophy and commitment to our students.

We also had incredible PD led by Crozet Speech & Learning, CPR sessions, team meetings, curriculum meetings, and so much more.

And, in true CDS fashion, we ended with play. Denise Stewart led us through improv experiences that encouraged curiosity, collaboration, and a willingness to say, “Let’s try something.”

So much learning, connection, and wonder to kick off the year.

And tomorrow, the real WONDER begins… 🐻✨

As summer winds down and we look ahead to a new school year, we’re reflecting on one of our favorite moments from our 20th year: Step Up, one of our most cherished Charlottesville Day School traditions.

Each year, Step Up celebrates our students as they cross the bridge into the next grade, marking another milestone in their journey at CDS. From beautiful singing and talented musicians to meaningful speeches and even a special performance from a group of our alumni, our students’ talents, confidence, and joy were on full display.

Thank you to every family who has trusted us over the past 20 years. It has been an honor to grow alongside you. Here’s to the next 20 years of learning, belonging, and inspiring one another.

Today, they walk across the bridge into their next adventure, carrying with them the friendships, lessons, and memories they’ve made along the way. We can’t wait to see where the next chapter takes them. You’ll always have a home at CDS. Once a Bear, always a Bear.
