In response to the current political moment in the United States we affirm our support for the statement of the Association of University Presses. We share the commitment to the freedom to think, read, publish, and teach as pillars of an open and just society. We also share the conviction that institutions of higher learning are centers of open inquiry where faculty, students, and staff can exchange ideas and opinions across a full range of view points, in pursuit of truth, without fear of retribution, censorship, arrest, or deportation. This conviction is held by everyone committed to academic freedom and excellence and has helped build the finest universities in the world.
We firmly believe that the publication and preservation of philosophical scholarship is a lasting contribution to the common good. We will continue to do this work to the best of our ability, in cooperation with editors, authors, professional associations, librarians, and colleagues at other publishers, come what may.
Responding to the Current Political Moment in the United States - Association of University Presses
AUPresses resolves to speak out - on behalf of our member presses and in concert with the wide scholarly community - about the very real threats to knowledge and scholarship posed by the current flood of US federal government policy mandates.
