Regents School of Charlottesville Our mission is to provide a K12 classical and Christian education, founded upon and informed by a biblical worldview, that equips our students to know, love, and practice that which is true, good, and the beautiful and challenges them to live purposefully and intelligently as servants of the Lord Jesus Christ for the benefit of man and the glory of God.

Classical Pedagogy

We accomplish this mission by employing the time-tested methods of the Trivium as described in Dorothy Sayers' 1947 essay "The Lost Tools of Learning." Sayers describes three developmental stages of learning as being best served by Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric stages of education. These stages of education are structured to capture a student's natural propensity for acquiring knowledge with tools of learning appropriate to their age.

Biblical Worldview

The most important distinction of a Regents education, however, is testing all of our curriculum, methodology, and arguments against biblical truth. We train up young hearts and minds alongside their parents to know, love, and practice God’s Word. There is great purpose to all that we teach at Regents in equipping our students to go out and serve God and man in a world that is in decline.

In Loco Parentis

We hope to give students at Regents School the tools to think so that they can learn anything. Many of our parents go back to their educational roots and read the classics alongside their children eager for understanding and clarity that they did not receive in their own schooling. We are grateful for this type of parent partnership at Regents School and recognize that God gave parents the responsibility of training up children including his or her education (Deuteronomy 6:7, Psalm 78:5-7). The concept of In Loco Parentis describes much of how we operate here at Regents School.

What makes an education distinctly classical? The classical model is shaped around The Trivium, three stages of educational development: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric. In the Rhetoric phase, students learn to think deeply, speak clearly, and communicate wisely. They develop the ability to form sound arguments, articulate truth with clarity, and engage the world with wisdom and biblical conviction.

The classical model is shaped by three stages of learning and development: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric, together known as the Trivium.⁣
⁣
Today, we’re highlighting Logic School. In seventh and eighth grade, students are developing the ability to reason carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and engage with ideas. They begin to wrestle with “living ideas,” learning not simply what to think, but how to examine, question, and defend what they believe.⁣
⁣
The logic teacher meets students’ natural inclination to question and challenge with purposeful instruction, guiding them as they develop the habits of sound reasoning and thoughtful discourse.

Each September, our Logic and Rhetoric School students kick off the year with a retreat to Watermarks Camp, allowing for intentional conversations, time in worship, and community building among students and teachers.
