Our fellows exhibit three important things.
๐๐พ Excellence: a proven record of achievement both in and out of the classroom
๐๐พ Relationships: a demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and the belief that all children can succeed
๐๐พ Commitment: a history of perseverance and willingness to join the Charlottesville-Albemarle community.
If you want to make a difference in your school system, becoming a fellow might be for you.

We put relationships first!
Our Fellows learn about students as individuals and become members of the community in which their students are growing up.
Education doesnโt end; it is continuous and extends beyond the classroom.

Yes, thatโs right, and it's alarming! Kids who drop out of school struggle to succeed in life without a proper education. We want to stop this statistic by empowering African American Teachers and by setting a good example for our local youth.

AATF doesn't just cut a check; we build a community.
We understand that staying in the teaching profession requires support in various areas. Thatโs why we assist our Fellows in three main ways:
๐ฐ Financial Support: Up to $6,000 per year for full-time students to cover tuition and licensure fees.
๐ผ Professional Support: Helping navigate the job market and creating strong partnerships with local schools.
๐ฑSocial Support: Providing a built-in mentoring program and a strong, life-long network of peer educators.
If you know any inspiring teachers? Contact us today, and they might be our next Fellow. ๐www.aatf.org/give

African American Teaching Fellows is excited to invite you to attend our 2026 Community Breakfast on ๐ Thursday, June 18th, from โ๏ธ 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at ๐The Jefferson African American Heritage Center.
The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of our grassroots nonprofit and strengthen connections between our fellows and the broader community. It will also provide an opportunity for fellows and community members to engage with local organizations and learn about the resources and support available to them as community members.
At this community breakfast, you can look forward to a great meal, meaningful connections, and plenty of laughter as comedian Leslie Rob takes the stage.
