While you're out enjoying the trails and sidewalks with your furry best friend today, don't forget this simple but crucial step: pick up after your pup!
Here's why it matters more than you might think: Storm water can carry pet waste into streams and rivers directly through storm drains. This waste carries harmful bacteria like E. coli and nutrients that can trigger algae blooms, harming aquatic life and making our waterways unsafe for everyone. :(
The good news? The solution is in your hands (literally)! Always carry bags on your walks and dispose of waste properly in trash cans. It's one of the easiest ways to protect the health of our local waterways.
Let's keep our walks enjoyable AND our waters clean! 💧🌊

❄️ Woke up to snow this morning? Before you salt your sidewalk, remember this: ONE COFFEE MUG of salt is enough for 20 square feet!
Most people use way too much. That excess salt washes into our streams and rivers when snow melts, harming aquatic life and contaminating our water.
Go out and enjoy the snow, and let's hope for a couple snow days!!!!🤞⛄💙

Gear up for Thanksgiving everybody! With the holidays coming up in just a few short weeks, here are some friendly reminders about being safe when disposing cooking oil or grease! When Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) are washed down the drain, it can cause blockages in your home and neighborhood sewer pipes. This results in messy and costly overflows. It’s bad for homes, the environment, and public health. Please be mindful and follow these steps when disposing of oils or greases, especially around these holidays!

Our watershed is haunted by the ghosts of plastic past! While Halloween is certainly a time to celebrate, keep our local streams in mind when you decide to litter your candy wrappers or leave behind a piece of your costume. Any and every piece of litter adds up, and contributes to pollution right here in Charlottesville. Please be mindful of your trash during these fun times! 🎃🍬💧
